The Twelve approached him and said,
"“Dismiss the crowd so that they can go to
the surrounding villages and farms and
find lodging and provisions; for we are in a
deserted place here." He said to them, "“Give
them some food yourselves." - Lk 9:12b-13a
LITURGY OF THE WORD
Jesus’ words “This is my body” and
“This cup is the new covenant in my
blood” were only part of his table
blessing. He also said, twice, “Do this
in remembrance of me.” Like the five
thousand hungry souls in today’s
Gospel, we are fed by our Lord, but
this is food that lasts and changes us.
It is intended to be shared the way
that Melchizedek shared bread and
wine with Abram. Let us listen now
for God’s voice, urging us to share
our lives as Jesus did.
Due to early publication of the
bulletin our financial reports will be
delayed. Sorry for any inconvenience.
“Unborn children who have developed far past their
point of experiencing excruciating pain are being
killed in the most brutal fashion imaginable in the
District of Columbia, a jurisdiction in which there are
currently no limits on abortion any moment up to
birth.” Dave Andrusko, editoriaql in NRL News, Spring 2013.
Today as we celebrate the gift of the Body and Blood of
Christ let us pray for those who are hungry,
MOST HOLY BODY & BLOOD IOF CHRIST
Eucharistic Citizenship
“The Eucharist … spurs us on our
journey through history and plants a
seed of living hope in our daily commitment to the
work before us. Certainly the Christian vision leads
to the expectation of “new heavens” and “a new
earth” (Rev 21:1), but this increases, rather than
lessens, our sense of responsibility for the world
today. I wish to reaffirm this forcefully at the
beginning of the new millennium, so that Christians
will feel more obliged than ever not to neglect their
duties as citizens in this world. Theirs is the task of
contributing with the light of the Gospel to the
building of a more human world, a world fully in
harmony with God's plan.”
-- Pope John Paul II, Ecclesia de Eucharistia, 2003
More than 40,000 religious women and men
who dedicated their lives to God and to
helping others now need your help. Your
donation to the Retirement Fund for Religious
helps with living expenses and the cost of
health care for elderly religious who have no
pension and only minimal Social Security benefits. Our
second collection today is for these faithful servants please
be generous.
Professional Therapy & Counseling
Family, marriage and individual therapies, provided by NYS
licensed therapists are available to our parish and 112 other
parishes. This program under the direcon of Dr. George
Giuliani, has been conducted in the diocese for the past 36
years for the convenience of parishioners. It is provided by the
Catholic Counseling Center, a proprietary professional
corporaon, which is independent of and not controlled or
supervised by the parish or diocese. Most insurance policies,
including Medicare, are honored. For confidenal informaon
and appointments, please call the Center at 631-243-2503 or go
to their website at http://www.thecatholiccounselingcenter.com.

Parish #425 page 3
Mass
lessed John Paul II reminded us that in
commemorating the Solemnity of the Most
Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the Church “does
not only celebrate the Eucharist but solemnly bears
it in procession, publicly proclaiming that the
sacrifice of Christ is for the salvation of the whole
world.” We rejoice in this post Easter expression of
our Eucharistic affection in order to deepen our
attachment to the unique and unending Event that
transforms our lives. As the Sequence for Corpus
Christi begs; “Jesu, of your love befriend us,/Your
eternal goodness send us/In the land of life to see.”
Gardening for Joy
In his last manuscript, "The Dispersion of
Seeds," Henry David Thoreau says, "As I
went by a pitch-pine wood the other day,
I saw a few little ones springing up in the
pasture from these seeds which had been
blown from the wood. In a few years, if not disturbed,
these seedlings will alter the face of Nature here."
Thoreau was very much aware of the immense
possibility contained in things so small that we can
hold hundreds in the palm of our hand. While not every
plant we handle comes from seed, they all start out
small, no matter how we propagate them. And while
some might grow into large trees, the greatness of
others will be in the happiness and joy that they will
bring to those who see their flowers or eat their
produce. How wonderful to be a gardener - for our own
and others' delight!
