ever therefore wants to be a friend with the world makes himself an
enemy of God (James 4:1-4).
How is this battle fought? With manufactured weapons
bought with gold and silver? No: “For the weapons of our warfare
are not of the flesh but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised
‘up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every
thought captive to the obedience of Christ” (1 Corinthians 10:4-5).
We are fighting a battle for the mind.
This battle is a war about what kind of law we should observe.
It’s a battle over ethics. Paul writes: “But I see another law in my
members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me
into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members” (Remans
7:23). There was a battle inside him, a war between good and
evil. “So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but
with the flesh the law of sin” (Remans 7 :25b).
Two laws, one man. It is a battle for the mind. Whose law will
win out, God’s or Satan’s? Which world is our destiny, the law of
freedom or the law of captivity? What is the way to victory? Paul
writes: “But now having been set free from sin, and having become
slaves of God, you have your fimit to holiness, and the end,
everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Remans 6:22-23).
Because this is a battle for the minds of men, it involves every
aspect of life. There is no neutrality. Each man has to pick sides.
Jesus warned: “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who
does not gather with Me scatters abroad” (Matthew 12 :30). Christians
often are confused about this. They have been sold a bill of
goods by the enemies of God, namely, that there are zones of neutrali~
scattered throughout the creation, and that some sort of
common natural law rules these neutral zones. This is a myth.
Either God’s law rules everything, and promises to bring all
things under His righteous judgment, or else God’s claim of being
God is a lie.
The battle is for the earth. One aspect of this battle is the battle
for the nations. The question men need to get answered first
