God has given it to us, which includes the gift of time and the obligation
to preach the gospel. We are to work to overcome evil, first
through w~-government under God’s law. We are to do what
Joseph did in the Egyptian prison: ask the butler (cup-bearer) to
remember us when he gets back in the house of the king (Genesis
40:14), but when he forgets (40:23), we are still to be the best,
most reliable people in the prison, until such time as God frees us.
This is how we get the prison-keeper to delegate more responsibility
to us (Genesis 39:22-23). The more responsibility we receive,
the more opportunities we have to prove ourselves before God as
His faithful, obedient servants. After all, this is what God wants:
jaithful wruants. This is why He grants us more freedom. He is not
interested in granting us more freedom so that we can become
unfaith~l servants.
Self-Government Under God’s Law
Liberation is a legitimate goal, both personally and corporately:
liberationfiom sin for the individual, the family, the church,
and the civil government. There is only one theology that can produce
liberation: Biblical Christianity. It teaches a very different
outlook from that taught by ‘liberation theology.” The theology
known today as liberation theology is simply an apology for bureaucratic
socialism, Mamism, and political theft on an international
scale. Liberation theology, is simply Marxism dressed in
clerical robes. It is a gospel of “salvation through political
plunder.”
The Bible teaches a system of personal freedom and personal
responsibility under God. It teaches se~-government under Godk law.
Remove the continuing validity of God’s revealed law from your
theology, and you thereby remove the Biblical basis of self-government.
Antinomianism produces impotence and slavery. It
leads to relativism. It also produces legalism as a reaction against
relativism:. man’s authoritative laws rather than God’s.
The Bible also teaches covenant theology. The covenants of
God are marked by a five-point structure that offers men release
