God has given it to us, which includes the gift of time and the obligation<br />

to preach the gospel. We are to work to overcome evil, first<br />

through w~-government under God’s law. We are to do what<br />

Joseph did in the Egyptian prison: ask the butler (cup-bearer) to<br />

remember us when he gets back in the house of the king (Genesis<br />

40:14), but when he forgets (40:23), we are still to be the best,<br />

most reliable people in the prison, until such time as God frees us.<br />

This is how we get the prison-keeper to delegate more responsibility<br />

to us (Genesis 39:22-23). The more responsibility we receive,<br />

the more opportunities we have to prove ourselves before God as<br />

His faithful, obedient servants. After all, this is what God wants:<br />

jaithful wruants. This is why He grants us more freedom. He is not<br />

interested in granting us more freedom so that we can become<br />

unfaith~l servants.<br />

Self-Government Under God’s Law<br />

Liberation is a legitimate goal, both personally and corporately:<br />

liberationfiom sin for the individual, the family, the church,<br />

and the civil government. There is only one theology that can produce<br />

liberation: Biblical Christianity. It teaches a very different<br />

outlook from that taught by ‘liberation theology.” The theology<br />

known today as liberation theology is simply an apology for bureaucratic<br />

socialism, Mamism, and political theft on an international<br />

scale. Liberation theology, is simply Marxism dressed in<br />

clerical robes. It is a gospel of “salvation through political<br />

plunder.”<br />

The Bible teaches a system of personal freedom and personal<br />

responsibility under God. It teaches se~-government under Godk law.<br />

Remove the continuing validity of God’s revealed law from your<br />

theology, and you thereby remove the Biblical basis of self-government.<br />

Antinomianism produces impotence and slavery. It<br />

leads to relativism. It also produces legalism as a reaction against<br />

relativism:. man’s authoritative laws rather than God’s.<br />

The Bible also teaches covenant theology. The covenants of<br />

God are marked by a five-point structure that offers men release<br />

from tyranny. When God’s covenant structure is respected in soci-
