John MacArthur, Jr., is one of the major figures in the dispensational<br />

world. He has a large church in southern California.<br />

His father started it, but he has expanded it. He is a popular<br />

speaker. He is also an author. When he speaks, a lot of<br />

people listen. When he writes, a lot of people read.<br />

His book, The Gospel According to Jesus (Zondervan Academie<br />

Books, 1988) was one of 1988’s best-selling hardback Christian<br />

books. It presented the case for Lordship salvation: the necessity<br />

of publicly accepting Jesus as Lord and then obeying Him,<br />

rather than a one-time verbal profession of faith in Jesus as<br />

Savior, followed by libertinism. The book created an immediate
