will carry out these plans. This view of Darwinism had become<br />

dominant by 1900. 9<br />

Darwinism was not confined to the geology department, the<br />

biology department, and the paleontology department. It<br />

spread outward from these fields in natural science into the<br />

social sciences and the arts. Above all, it spread into the field of<br />

law. In 1881, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., made the evolutionary<br />

worldview the basis of his book, The Common Law. He eventually<br />

became a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.<br />

Since 1961, a few academic Christians have begun to defend<br />

the six-day creation in the natural sciences. The problem is,<br />

dispensationali;m does not have a doctrine of biblical law.<br />

Thus, there is no attempt on the part of these dispensational<br />

six-day creationists to extend their view of origins into the social<br />

sciences and the arts. Three decades after The Genesis Flood,<br />

thp-e is not a single college-level textbook by a dispensationalist<br />

that applies creationism to the social sciences, law, and the arts.<br />

Only the Christian Reconstructionists make these applications,<br />

precisely because they are not dispensationalists, although they<br />

are six-day creationists. 10<br />

The pietism and retreatism of traditional dispensationalism,<br />

which are the inevitable products of dispensationalism’s view of<br />

social law and the future, have paralyzed the six-day creationists<br />

within the dispensational camp. These scholars have refused to<br />

take the creation vs. evolution battle out of the narrow confines<br />

of the natural sciences. Yet it was in these other academic disciplines<br />

that nineteenth-century Darwinism created a new view of<br />

God, man, law, and time, and a new civilization to match this<br />

Darwinian worldview. The battle has barely begun, yet the<br />

dispensational creationists seem almost unaware of the vast<br />
