Neptunus with his great three-forked mace<br />

feliaks the weake wall, and tottering foundation,<br />

And from the site the Cittie doth displace,<br />

Fierce Juno first holds ope the gates t' invasion.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Caunians, for the jelousie of their owne Gods<br />

domination, upon their devotion day arme themselves,<br />

and running up and downe, brandishing and striking<br />

the ayre with their glaives, and in this earnest manner<br />

they expell all forame and banish all strange Gods<br />

from out their territoric. <strong>The</strong>ir powers are limited<br />

acco<strong>rd</strong>ing to our necessitie. Some heale horses, some<br />

cure men, some the plague, some the scald, some the<br />

cough, some one kinde of scab, and some another:<br />

Adeo minimis etiam rebus pram religio inserit Deos:<br />

'This corrupt religion engageth and inserteth Gods<br />

even in the least matters :' some make grapes to<br />

growe, and some garlike; some have the charge of<br />

bawdrie and uncleanesse, and some of merchandise : to><br />

every kinde of trades-man a God. Some one hath<br />

his province and credit in the East, and some in the<br />
