CARBONATITE - ALKALIC ROCK COMPLEXES: CARGILL TOWNSHIP
suiting from the reaction of alkali-rich aqueous fluids from the carbonatite
magma with the surrounding pyroxenite. This process is analogous to fenitization
and has been described in detail by Gittins et al. (1975). Drilling by Sherritt
Gordon Mines Limited in 1985 to test for vermiculite indicated that the existing
vermiculite is a product of weathering and is a near-surface feature lacking in
vertical extent. The work of Sheritt Gordon Mines Limited has diminished con
siderably the vermiculite potential of the Cargill Township Carbonatite Complex.
