CARBONATITE - ALKALIC ROCK COMPLEXES: CARGILL TOWNSHIP<br />

suiting from the reaction <strong>of</strong> alkali-rich aqueous fluids from the <strong>carbonatite</strong><br />

magma with the surrounding pyroxenite. This process is analogous to fenitization<br />

and has been described in detail by Gittins et al. (1975). Drilling by Sherritt<br />

Gordon Mines Limited in 1985 to test for vermiculite indicated that the existing<br />

vermiculite is a product <strong>of</strong> weathering and is a near-surface feature lacking in<br />

vertical extent. The work <strong>of</strong> Sheritt Gordon Mines Limited has diminished con<br />

siderably the vermiculite potential <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Cargill</strong> <strong>Township</strong> Carbonatite Complex.<br />
