Special Guest Faculty
Mitchell T. Rabkin, M.D. James W. Holsinger, Jr., M.D., Ph.D.
Past President and CEO, Beth Israel Hospital, Boston Chancellor, University of Kentucky Medical School
“Superb, the best CME course I have taken at Harvard Medical School!”
“It is extremely rare for me to want to attend every minute of an educational conference. The value of the Leadership for Physician
Executives course drew me like a magnet to each and every session.”
“A master class in leadership - a ‘must-do’ course for physician executives.”
Today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment requires physicians to take on new leadership roles. By participating in this critically
acclaimed seminar, you will gain knowledge, insights, and skills to be a more effective leader. Specifically, you will learn to:
■ Lead and manage change
■ Engage diverse constituencies around common goals
■ Understand the accountabilities, relationships, and authorities of the leadership role
■ Clarify, structure, and manage relationships across professions, functions, and departments
■ Manage conflict and negotiate solutions that address overarching, strategic goals
■ Apply a comprehensive, research-based frame of reference to issues of management and leadership
“A ‘must-take’ course for anyone in a leadership position.”
“This seminar offers M.D.’s a unique opportunity to develop new skills to solve problems around people, work roles, and organizational
structure. Truly outstanding.”
“Extremely useful conference at a cognitive, experiential, participative, and interpersonal level. I look forward to implementing things
I have learned.”
The faculty members are physician-executives with significant administrative and consultation experience who help physicians transfer
their traditional perspectives and skills to their new roles. Previous participants of Leadership for Physician Executives have represented
the full range of medical specialties and occupied important positions in: group practices, HMO’s, insurance companies, academic
departments, public health services, hospital administration, clinic administrations, and the military. Seminar participants examine
the implication of new and different kinds of power and recognition, changes in ethics and values, and changes in relationships with
colleagues and other healthcare professionals. They confront problems in decision making, conflict resolution, organizational structure,
motivation, change—problems previously unrelated to the practice of medicine. (Continued inside.)
Attendance is limited to only 49 registrants—please register early.

“Provides an excellent framework for understanding the psychological dimensions of leadership.”
“The cases were excellent! Great for illustrating points made. The lectures provided a good dissection of roles and workers.”
“The great strengths of this course were Gerry Kraines’s passionate leadership and the small-group culture.”
“The power of this course was the way it built from components and theory to integration and practice.”
Concepts taught are then applied through small-group discussion of actual cases that participants prepare before the seminar. The highly qualified faculty, individual
attention, small-group problem solving, individual case discussions, and opportunity to learn from the diverse experience of other physician-participants,
have made this seminar among the most highly regarded continuing education programs.
“Excellent opportunity to meet people and interact and receive objective criticism and positive feedback.”
“Excellent training for chiefs and directors of departments. Superb gathering of diverse students that enrich this course.”
“Great course, an experience not only for the organization, but for my personal well-being.”
“I am determined to master my role as a physician leader; this course gave me the tools to succeed and will help me in my journey.”
Among the reasons that physicians value the seminar so highly is its individual attention to the participants. This is not a seminar on simple managerial mechanics;
its focus is on the process of leadership!
