The major objective of this course is to provide a comprehensive review of the<br />

most important advances that have recently been made <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternal medic<strong>in</strong>e.<br />

The course is directed at the level of the <strong>in</strong>ternist <strong>in</strong> practice and residents.<br />

The emphasis will be placed on progress that has been made <strong>in</strong> basic<br />

science, pathophysiology, and cl<strong>in</strong>ical management of the most common<br />

disorders seen by the <strong>in</strong>ternist. Each of the major subspecialties will be<br />

covered <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g cardiology, endocr<strong>in</strong>ology, gastroenterology, hematology,<br />

<strong>in</strong>fectious diseases, nephrology, neurology, oncology, pulmonary disease,<br />

and rheumatology. In addition, a number of important miscellaneous topics<br />

of relevance to the current practice of medic<strong>in</strong>e will be addressed.<br />

Much of the material will be presented <strong>in</strong> lecture format by our best teachers<br />

and cl<strong>in</strong>icians.<br />

Each specialty will have a case-based session us<strong>in</strong>g an <strong>in</strong>teractive<br />

wireless audience response system. This system will allow you to<br />

anonymously test your knowledge <strong>in</strong> the different areas of medic<strong>in</strong>e.<br />

A CD-ROM <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g chest x-rays,<br />

ECGs, peripheral smears, cutaneous<br />

lesions, liver and renal biopsies,<br />

and selected ocular, endocr<strong>in</strong>e,<br />

rheumatological and gastro<strong>in</strong>test<strong>in</strong>al<br />

abnormalities will be provided<br />

together with an extensive syllabus.<br />
