In Scenario A, the cars are very different, but the price difference
is only $1. It seems reasonable to assume that in this scenario the
price would be a very minor factor in the decision. If the range
for price in LDW was the same as for the alternatives a very low
weight for price would be appropriate.
In Scenario B, the alternatives are the same, but the price
difference is now $81,000. In this scenario, price is likely to be a
major factor in the choice and thus should be assigned a relatively
large weight in the analysis.
Here is another more quantitative example. Figure 9-12 shows a
situation where two cars differ on price and performance but are
equally preferred.
