Other Financial Companies:<br />

SECURITIES SOLD BUT NOT YET PURCHASED (SHORT CALL) represents the selling of a security<br />

which the seller does not own but will have to purchase so that the shares can be delivered to the buyer.<br />

This is usually done when the seller believes that the value of the stock will decline. The seller hopes to<br />

be able to purchase the shares needed to fulfil the sale at a lower price than he sold them for thus making<br />

a profit.<br />

It includes but is not restricted to:<br />

Bear positions (U.K. term)<br />

Margin accounts<br />

Securities Sold Under Repurchase Agreements<br />

Banks, Other Financial Companies:<br />

SECURITIES SOLD UNDER REPURCHASE AGREEMENTS represent securities sold on a short term<br />

basis that are bought back by the bank. Repurchase agreements usually call for the securities to be<br />

bought back by a certain date at a stated price. Banks also use repurchase agreements to maximize<br />

earnings on treasury issues on a short term basis.<br />
