NET ASSETS FROM ACQUISITIONS represent assets acquired through pooling of interests or mergers.<br />

It does not include capital expenditures of acquired companies.<br />

Data for this field is generally not available prior to 1989.<br />

It includes but is not restricted to:<br />

Net assets of acquired companies<br />

Additions to fixed assets from acquisitions<br />

Working capital of companies acquired (if shown as both a source and a use, both numbers are netted<br />

against each other)<br />

Securities brokers are subject to the "Uniform Net Capital Rule" of the Securities and Exchange<br />

Commission. Under the alternate method permitted by the rule, required net capital shall not be less than<br />

two percent of aggregate debit items arising from client transactions. The New York Stock Exchange, Inc.<br />

may also require a member organization to reduce its business if its net capital is less than four percent of<br />

aggregate debit items and may prohibit a member firm from expanding its business and declaring cash<br />

dividends if its net capital is less than five percent of aggregate debit balances.<br />
