Environmental Protection Program
The Department of Public Health, Bureau of
Environmental Protection provides a wide array
of services to protect public health:
Solid Waste Management: Regulates landfills
and the collection, transfer, and disposal of
solid waste. Investigates complaints related to
waste haulers and illegal dumping.
Swimming Pools: Inspects public swimming
pools, spa pools, and special purpose pools to
ensure they are built, maintained, and operated
in conformance to applicable regulations, and
certifies individuals who clean and service both
public and private swimming pools.
Environmental Hygiene: Responds to environmental
hygiene complaints from the public such as
noise, odors, asbestos and other chemical
hazards. This program also regulates and
enforces ordinance regulations such as noise
level standards and body art establishments
such a tattoo parlors.
Radiation: Inspects X-ray and radioactive material
users in the County such as medical, dental,
and industrial facilities, and investigates incidents
of radiation overexposure and radiological
emergency incidents.
Garment: Enforces sanitation and occupational
health and safety requirements within garment
manufacturing establishments, commercial
laundries, commercial laundry vehicles,
unlicensed commercial buildings, and wiping
cloth establishments.
Land Use: Reviews and approves plans for
installation of repair of septic systems, domestic
water supply wells, and other special use wells.
Also determines if the water produced from
private wells meets State Drinking Water
Standards.
Cross Connection and Water Pollution Control:
Protects potable water supplies served by public
water companies from contamination or pollution
by ensuring that no hazardous conditions exit.
