2d. Embryology. For a major in Embryology, the Biology Option<br />
or its equivalent is prerequisite. In addition to the subjects and the<br />
research in the major and minor fields, advanced work in at least<br />
one other department of the Division of Biology will be required.<br />
The program of work will depend upon the preliminary training of<br />
the student and will be subject to the approval of those in charge<br />
of the major work.<br />
2e. Genetics. For a major in Genetics the Biology Option or its<br />
equivalent is prerequisite. As a part of the major, Bi. 125 should be<br />
taken for at least two years, and other subjects in related fields.<br />
For a minor, some other subject or subjects, either in the Division<br />
of Biology or in some other division of the Institute, should be taken,<br />
subject to the approval of those in charge of the major.<br />
2f. Plant Physiology. For a major in Plant Physiology the Biology<br />
Option or its equivalent is prerequisite. The major should include<br />
Bi. 140, Bi. 141, and related subjects. For a minor, one or two other<br />
subjects in the Division should be chosen, with the approval of those<br />
in charge of the major.<br />
3. A minor in the Division of Biology must be taken in one of<br />
the departments of study listed above, unless special arrangements<br />
are made otherwise.<br />
D. OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATE AND SCIENTIFIC<br />
WORK AT THE INSTITUTE<br />
I. FELLOWSHIPS AND ASSISTANTSHIPS<br />
The Institute offers in each of its divisions a number of Fellowships<br />
and Graduate Assistantships. These usually carry, as stipends, tuition<br />
with or without an additional grant.<br />
Most of the major grants consist in providing, for a continuous<br />
period of ten months, board in the Athenxum (see pages 73 and 169)<br />
and lodging in the Athemeum loggia, the Dormitory, or the Student<br />
