Id. Meteorology. To be recommended for candidacy for the<br />
doctor's degree in Meteorology the applicant must pass the following<br />
subjects with a grade of C or better:<br />
Ma. 14 Vector Analysis<br />
AE. 266 a b Theoretical Aerodynamics I<br />
Ph. 211 Thermodynamics<br />
and one of the following subjects:<br />
Ma. 114 a b Introduction to Mathematical Analysis<br />
EE. 226 a b Engineering Mathematical Physics<br />
2. In general a student will find it necessary to continue his graduate<br />
study and research for two years after admission to candidacy,<br />
and will be expected to have had six months or more of practical work.<br />
D. GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES<br />
I. To be admitted to candidacy for the doctor's degree in the<br />
Division of the Geological Sciences the applicant must have shown<br />
more than average ability in mastering the previous geological,<br />
paleontological, and geophysical subjects.<br />
2. The applicant for admission to candidacy may be required to<br />
take a qualifying examination which may be oral, or written, or both.<br />
3. After admission to candidacy, students must in general pursue<br />
advanced study and research for a minimum of six terms, or approximately<br />
two years (counting each summer of field work as a term).<br />
4. Candidates are required to take two oral examinations after<br />
admission to candidacy. The first, termed the general examination,<br />
tests knowledge in a specified number, but not all, of the various<br />
branches of geology and paleontology, and may be taken at any convenient<br />
time after admission to candidacy. The second, or final<br />
examination, is principally, but not entirely, a defense of the doctoral<br />
thesis and a test of the candidate's knowledge in the specialized fields<br />
of his major and minor subjects.<br />
5. A first draft of the doctoral thesis with data, maps, and illustrations<br />
complete must be submitted to the professor in charge not<br />
later than February 1. Two copies of the final, revised thesis must be
