2. Before registering, the graduate student should consult with<br />

members of the department in which he is taking his work to<br />

determine the studies which he can pursue to the best advantage.<br />

3. A student will not receive credit for a course unless he is<br />

properly registered, and at the first meeting of each class should<br />

furnish the instructor with a regular assignment card for the course,<br />

obtained from the Registrar's office.<br />

4. Students registering for more than 50 units but less than 63<br />

units in any term must have the approval of their department. Registration<br />

for more than 62 units must in addition have the approval of<br />

the Registration Committee.<br />

III. SCHOLASTIC REQUIREMENTS<br />

1. A minimum of 15 0 units of residence work is required for a<br />

fifth-year degree.<br />

2. Scholastic requirements given on pages 100-104 of the catalogue<br />

for undergraduate students also apply to fifth-year students.<br />

3. In the case of a student registered for the higher bachelor's<br />

or master's degree and holding a position as Assistant or Teaching<br />

Fellow, the actual number of hours per week required by the teaching<br />

shall be deducted from the total number of units for which the<br />

student may register.<br />

4. A fifth-year student who has completed his senior year at the<br />

Institute is subject to the same regulations as are juniors and seniors,<br />

as listed on page 103.<br />

Candidates for a fifth-year degree who have completed their<br />

undergraduate work at other institutions are subject to the same<br />

scholastic regulations applying to new transfer students as listed on<br />

page 101.
