• We are actively involved in education programs, advocacy, and technology access to enable tomorrow’s innovators.<br />

• Intel has invested over US$1billion in the past decade towards improving education in 50 countries.<br />

• More than 6 million teachers have been trained in over 40 countries, and 7 million more teachers will be trained by 2011.<br />

• Intel works with governments, local NGOs and academic institutions through public private partnership for improving education around the world.<br />

Improving teaching and learning through the effective use of technology<br />

Intel ® Teach Program<br />

The <strong>Intel®</strong> Teach Program is a professional development program that<br />

helps classroom teachers effectively integrate technology to enhance<br />

student learning. It is the most successful professional development<br />

program of its kind.<br />

In India, the Program has impacted over ten lakh teachers across 17 State<br />

Governments and Union Territories, 62 teacher education universities, 8<br />

SCERT’s and Central Government relationships like NVS, KVS & NCTE.<br />

Brief Update for <strong>Gujarat</strong>:<br />

• Program started in: August 2001<br />

• State Government Organisations we work with: <strong>Gujarat</strong> Secondary<br />

and Higher Secondary <strong>Education</strong> Board (GSHSEB), Sarva Shiksha<br />

Abhiyan (SSA), <strong>Gujarat</strong> Council of <strong>Education</strong> Research and<br />

Training(GCERT)<br />

• Number of districts covered : All 26<br />

• World Ahead State MoU signed with <strong>Education</strong> and Tribal to<br />

support CM 10 point program, during Vibrant <strong>Gujarat</strong>, 2009 .<br />

• Integration of Intel Teach with CCC curriculum to impact all<br />

teachers.<br />

• Over 1,05,496 teachers trained across government and private<br />

schools.<br />

• Intel and GSHSEB Jointly developed technology standards.<br />

• 72,498 Teacher Educators and Student teachers trained across<br />

280 colleges of Bhavnagar University, GCERT, <strong>Gujarat</strong> Vidya Peeth<br />

University, Maharaja Sayajji Rao University, North <strong>Gujarat</strong><br />

University, Sardar Patel University, SNDT University, Ahmedabad,<br />

Kadi Vishwa Vidyalaya University and South <strong>Gujarat</strong> University.<br />

• Educators Club formed in Sardar Patel University<br />

• AIM (Asian Institute of Management), Phillipines developed a case<br />

study on <strong>Gujarat</strong> Government – Intel PPP for <strong>Education</strong><br />

transformation<br />

• Deakin University conducted Post Practicum Survey and Impact<br />

survey in Jan, 2007 for the Pre Service program. Result shows<br />

strong teacher educator and student teacher level technology<br />

implementation in teaching learning.<br />

IMRB evaluation of impact of Program reveals that:<br />

• 94% of the principals reiterate that the program has a positive<br />

impact on the teachers, students and on overall functioning of the<br />

school.<br />

• 81% teachers in SSA schools are using the technology in new<br />

ways like making projects, teaching lessons by diagrams, using the<br />

power point presentation etc.<br />

• 99% of the students mentioned that they enjoy the computer<br />

aided learning and were able to understand the lessons more<br />

effectively when taught using computers.<br />

<strong>Intel®</strong> Learn Program<br />

The Intel ® Learn Program is a community-based program for emerging<br />

markets designed to help learners (8-16 years) develop 21 st century<br />

skills (techno-logical literacy, critical thinking, problem solving, and<br />

collaboration). The curriculum uses an engaging project-based approach<br />

and is delivered through community technology centers.<br />

The program was launched in 2004 and till date has reached more<br />

than 87,000 learners in 1,100 centers across 23 states and 4 Union<br />

Territories in collaboration with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (MHRD,<br />

Government of India). In Kerala and Chandigarh, in addition to NVS, the<br />

program runs in collaboration with KSITM and SSA respectively.<br />

Brief Update for <strong>Gujarat</strong>:<br />

• Program was launched in 2008<br />

• 13 teachers (miscellaneous staff) trained from 13 JNVs<br />

• 2,245 learners trained across 13 JNVs in 13 districts.


Advancing math, science and engineering education and research<br />

<strong>Initiative</strong> for Research & Innovation in Science (IRIS)<br />

IRIS is the merger of ‘Intel Science Talent Discovery Fair’ (ISTDF) and<br />

‘Steer the Big Idea’ from CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) and DST<br />

(Department of Science & Technology, Government of India). The<br />

mission of IRIS is to promote and nurture science and scientific research<br />

amongst young Indian innovators, recognize and reward outstanding<br />

projects and provide a platform for the young innovators to get<br />

recognized at International events ISEF (International Science and<br />

Engineering Fair) & IEYI (International Exhibition for Young Innovators).<br />

Till 2008, IRIS has impacted over 1.3 million students through<br />

workshops across 24 states governments, 2 Union Territories and<br />

Central Government relationships like NVS, KVS, and other schools.<br />

The Intel ISEF 2008 was held from May 11-17 in Atlanta, GA. Team<br />

India which consisted of 4 individuals and 2 teams contested at Intel<br />

ISEF. Team India won total prize money of $ 17,500 and internships in<br />

various prestigious institutions.<br />

Brief Update for <strong>Gujarat</strong>:<br />

• 6 workshops carried out in 2008 which trained 209 teachers and<br />

526 teachers<br />

• <strong>Gujarat</strong> has produced 1 National Fair winner - Hetal Vaishnav in<br />

2008<br />

<strong>Intel®</strong> Higher <strong>Education</strong> Program<br />

The Intel ® Higher <strong>Education</strong> Program focuses on advancing innovation<br />

in key areas of technology and developing a pipeline of diverse worldclass<br />

technical talent for Intel and the broader industry.<br />

• Efforts focus on research, curriculum, student opportunities as well<br />

as entrepreneurship.<br />

• Intel’s higher education support extends to more than 150<br />

universities in 34 countries.<br />

In India, the Higher <strong>Education</strong> Program is covering more than 300<br />

engineering colleges focusing on developing industry expertise in<br />

cutting edge technology areas like Multi Core, VLSI and supports<br />

research engagements and innovation & entrepreneurship<br />

development programs across the academia.<br />

Brief Update for <strong>Gujarat</strong>:<br />

• In <strong>Gujarat</strong>, leading engineering colleges like SV NIT Surat have<br />

participated in National Academic Forum and Asia Academic Forum<br />

conducted by Intel in past.<br />

• Students of DAIIT have participated in the Intel Scholar Program<br />

2008
