4 Adding<br />
Memory to Your <strong>iBook</strong> <strong>G4</strong><br />
This chapter provides information and instructions for<br />
installing additional memory in your <strong>iBook</strong> <strong>G4</strong>.<br />

Warning: Apple re<strong>com</strong>mends that you have an Apple-certified technician install<br />
memory. Consult the service and support information that came with your <strong>com</strong>puter<br />
for instructions on how to contact Apple for service. If you attempt to install memory<br />
and damage your equipment, such damage is not covered by the limited warranty on<br />
your <strong>com</strong>puter.<br />
Your <strong>com</strong>puter <strong>com</strong>es with one memory slot that you access by removing the<br />
<strong>com</strong>puter’s keyboard. Your <strong>com</strong>puter also <strong>com</strong>es with 512 megabytes (MB) of Double<br />
Data Rate (DDR) Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory (SDRAM) already<br />
installed on the logic board.<br />
The memory slot can accept an SDRAM module that meets the following specifications:<br />
 Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR SO-DIMM) format<br />
 1.25 inch or smaller<br />
 128, 256, 512 MB, or 1 gigabyte (GB)<br />
 200-pin<br />
 PC2700 DDR 333 Type RAM for the 14-inch <strong>iBook</strong> <strong>G4</strong><br />
 A minimum of PC2100 DDR 266 Type RAM for the 12-inch <strong>iBook</strong> <strong>G4</strong>. You can use<br />
PC2700 DDR 333 Type RAM with the 12-inch <strong>iBook</strong> <strong>G4</strong>, but it will still run at PC2100<br />
DDR 266 speed.<br />
The re<strong>com</strong>mended maximum amount of memory you can install in your <strong>iBook</strong> is<br />
1.5 GB, using one 1 GB DIMM in the memory slot.<br />
