To <strong>de</strong>fine how to expand an extension number into a particular <strong>de</strong>stination pattern, use the num-exp<br />

global configuration command.<br />

num-exp extension-number expan<strong>de</strong>d-number<br />

Syntax Description<br />

extension-number Digit(s) <strong>de</strong>fining an extension number for a particular dial peer.<br />

expan<strong>de</strong>d-number Digit(s) <strong>de</strong>fining the expan<strong>de</strong>d telephone number or <strong>de</strong>stination pattern<br />

for the extension number listed.<br />

This command first appeared in Cisco IOS Release 11.3(1)T.<br />

Use the num-exp global configuration command to <strong>de</strong>fine how to expand a particular set of numbers<br />

(for example, an extension number) into a particular <strong>de</strong>stination pattern. With this command, you<br />

can map specific extensions and expan<strong>de</strong>d numbers together by explicitly <strong>de</strong>fining each number, or<br />

you can <strong>de</strong>fine extensions and expan<strong>de</strong>d numbers using variables. You can also use this command to<br />

convert 7-digit numbers to numbers containing less than 7 digits.<br />

Use a period (.) as a variable or wild card, representing a single number. Use a separate period for<br />

each number you want to represent with a wildcard—meaning that if you want to replace 4 numbers<br />

in an extension with wildcards, type in 4 periods.<br />

Examples<br />

The following example expands the extension number 55541 to be expan<strong>de</strong>d to 14085555541:<br />

num-exp 65541 14085555541<br />

The following example <strong>show</strong>s how to expand all 5-digit extensions beginning with 5 to append the<br />

following numbers at the beginning of the extension number 1408555:<br />
