Configuring FXO or FXS Voice Ports<br />

Step 3 Configure one or more of the following optional <strong>voice</strong>-<strong>port</strong> parameters by using the<br />

indicated commands:<br />

• PLAR connection mo<strong>de</strong> using the connection plar command<br />

• Music-threshold using the music-threshold command<br />

• Description using the <strong>de</strong>scription command<br />

• Comfort noise (if VAD is activated—VAD is a dial-peer command) using the<br />

comfort-noise command<br />

To configure FXO and FXS <strong>voice</strong> <strong>port</strong>s, use the following commands beginning in privileged EXEC<br />

mo<strong>de</strong>:<br />

Step Command Purpose<br />

1 configure terminal Enter the global configuration mo<strong>de</strong>.<br />

2 <strong>voice</strong>-<strong>port</strong> slot-number/subunit-number/<strong>port</strong> I<strong>de</strong>ntify the <strong>voice</strong> <strong>port</strong> you want to configure and<br />

enter the <strong>voice</strong>-<strong>port</strong> configuration mo<strong>de</strong>.<br />

3 dial-type {dtmf | pulse} (For FXO <strong>port</strong>s only) Select the appropriate dial<br />

type for out-dialing.<br />

4 signal {loop-start | ground-start} Select the appropriate signal type for this interface.<br />

5 cptone country Select the appropriate <strong>voice</strong> call progress tone for<br />

this interface.<br />

The <strong>de</strong>fault for this command is us. For a list of<br />

sup<strong>port</strong>ed countries, refer to the Voice, Vi<strong>de</strong>o, and<br />

Home Applications Command Reference.<br />

6 ring frequency {25 | 50} (For FXS <strong>port</strong>s only) Select the appropriate ring<br />

frequency (in Hertz) specific to the equipment<br />

attached to this <strong>voice</strong> <strong>port</strong>.<br />

7 ring number number (For FXO <strong>port</strong>s only) Specify the maximum number<br />

of rings to be <strong>de</strong>tected before answering a call.<br />

8 connection plar string (Optional) Specify the private line auto ringdown<br />

(PLAR) connection, if this <strong>voice</strong> <strong>port</strong> is used for a<br />

PLAR connection. The string value specifies the<br />

<strong>de</strong>stination telephone number.<br />

9 music-threshold number (Optional) Specify the threshold (in <strong>de</strong>cibels) for<br />

on-hold music. Valid entries are from -70 to -30.<br />

10 <strong>de</strong>scription string (Optional) Attach <strong>de</strong>scriptive text about this<br />

<strong>voice</strong> <strong>port</strong> connection.<br />

11 comfort-noise (Optional) Specify that background noise will be<br />

generated.<br />
