Raiders to Iwo Jima with Marshall Harris<br />

On this date in 1942, Doolittle’s Raiders bombed Tokyo. Join us<br />

for a discussion and slide presentation with Marshall Harris, U.S.<br />

Marine Corps WWII Veteran, as he touches on Doolittle’s Raiders<br />

from a historical standpoint, and his experiences at Saipan, Tinian<br />

and Iwo Jima.<br />

Bob Clemens was a Navigator on a B-17 crew during WWII based<br />

out of Foggia, Italy. He flew 50 missions from Jun 16 through Sep<br />

12, 1944 to Germany, Austria, Budapest, Hungary, and Ploesti,<br />

Romania. Join us to hear his amazing story.<br />

NEW! WWII: The Early Years 1933-1943<br />

Join us for an in-depth look at the rise of the Nazi Party and the<br />

Japanese Empire in the years prior to America’s involvement in<br />

World War II. Each week we will view a documentary and follow it<br />

with a group discussion. We’ll cover the fall of France, the Battle of<br />

Britain, the fall of Singapore; and the opposition to U.S. involvement<br />

in the war. Classes take place at Sandburg Learning Center, 6400<br />

Sandburg Road, Golden Valley in Partnership with the University of<br />

Minnesota’s O.L.L.I. program and the Robbinsdale CE program.<br />

Dog Obedience, Basic<br />

Learn the basics of on-leash obedience, including commands such<br />

as heel, sit, down, come, stand and stay. Handlers will learn to give<br />

commands and use praise to reward proper behavior. Fee is per<br />

dog. Puppies must be at least three months old and have begun<br />

their shot series. Bring a leash and dog treats.<br />

Dog Obedience, Intermediate<br />

Continue where the Basic Dog Obedience class left off with<br />

off-leash work and introducing several new exercises: the drop<br />

on recall, the retrieve and basic jumping. Basic exercises will be<br />

reviewed. Puppies must be 3+ months old and have begun their<br />

shot series. Bring a collar, six-foot leather leash and a retrieving<br />

dumbbell.<br />

Help Me Grow! Autism 101<br />

April is National Autism Awareness Month. In an effort to increase<br />

community awareness, the Help Me Grow program is hosting an<br />

Autism 101 discussion that will cover introductory topics related to<br />

Autism Spectrum Disorders including an overview of the disorders,<br />

early identification signs and types of early interventions. Bring your<br />

questions.<br />
