In <strong>the</strong> quasi-fissi<strong>on</strong> process, <strong>the</strong> large mass rearrangements between <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>teract<strong>in</strong>g <strong>heavy</strong> i<strong>on</strong>s<br />

occur at a short time scale [11, 112]. One <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> experimental signatures [113] <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> this process<br />

is <strong>the</strong> large width <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> mass distributi<strong>on</strong>s, <strong>in</strong>compatible with compound nucleus fissi<strong>on</strong>. C<strong>on</strong>-<br />

ceptually, <strong>the</strong> quasi-fissi<strong>on</strong> bridges <strong>the</strong> gap [106] between <strong>the</strong> deep-<strong>in</strong>elastic collisi<strong>on</strong>s, where<br />

<strong>the</strong> reacti<strong>on</strong> partners get <strong>in</strong>to sufficiently close c<strong>on</strong>tact to exchange many particles practically<br />

without alter<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir average mass and charge [33], and <strong>the</strong> complete fusi<strong>on</strong> process, where<br />

<strong>the</strong> reacti<strong>on</strong> partners completely lose <strong>the</strong>ir identity by transformati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong>to a compound nucleus<br />

[113]. All <strong>the</strong>se types <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> reacti<strong>on</strong> are organically c<strong>on</strong>nected and are derived from <strong>the</strong> evolu-<br />

ti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> a d<strong>in</strong>uclear system (DNS) [18, 34] which is formed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> entrance channel dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

capture stage <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> reacti<strong>on</strong>, after <strong>the</strong> dissipati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> collisi<strong>on</strong> k<strong>in</strong>etic energy. The decay <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<strong>the</strong> DNS when it evolves <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> mass asymmetry coord<strong>in</strong>ate predest<strong>in</strong>es <strong>the</strong> charge and mass<br />

distributi<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> reacti<strong>on</strong> products. The competiti<strong>on</strong> between <strong>the</strong> complete fusi<strong>on</strong> and <strong>the</strong><br />

quasi-fissi<strong>on</strong> process occurs <strong>in</strong> reacti<strong>on</strong>s with massive <strong>nuclei</strong> at low bombard<strong>in</strong>g energies (< 15<br />

MeV/u) [34].<br />

In this chapter, <strong>the</strong> quasi-fissi<strong>on</strong> process is described as <strong>the</strong> evoluti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> DNS <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Z<br />

(A) coord<strong>in</strong>ate by nucle<strong>on</strong>s transfer between <strong>nuclei</strong> tak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to account <strong>the</strong> DNS decay <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>ternuclear distance R (or el<strong>on</strong>gati<strong>on</strong> λ). Here, Z (A) denotes <strong>the</strong> charge (mass) number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong><br />

light fragment <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> DNS. For <strong>the</strong> sake <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> simplicity, we will use <strong>the</strong> variables Z(A) <strong>in</strong>stead <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong><br />

charge (mass) asymmetry η (ηZ). S<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> isotopic compositi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> <strong>nuclei</strong> form<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> DNS<br />
