The evoluti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> d<strong>in</strong>uclear system (DNS) proceeds al<strong>on</strong>g a large number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> trajectories<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> space. The mass (charge) asymmetry η =(A1 − A2)/(A1 + A2) (ηZ =<br />

(Z1 − Z2)/(Z1 + Z2)) (A1 (Z1) andA2 (Z2) are <strong>the</strong> mass (charge) numbers <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> two <strong>nuclei</strong>) and<br />

<strong>the</strong> distance R between <strong>the</strong> centers <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>nuclei</strong> (or <strong>the</strong> el<strong>on</strong>gati<strong>on</strong> λ <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> system) are assumed to<br />

be <strong>the</strong> most important degrees <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> freedom <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> DNS [18, 34]. The preferable fusi<strong>on</strong> channel <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> DNS <strong>model</strong> [18, 34] is <strong>the</strong> evoluti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> DNS to a compound nucleus by nucle<strong>on</strong> transfer<br />

from a light nucleus to a <strong>heavy</strong> <strong>on</strong>e, <strong>the</strong> moti<strong>on</strong> to larger η at <strong>the</strong> touch<strong>in</strong>g c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>nuclei</strong>. In this <strong>model</strong> <strong>the</strong> melt<strong>in</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>nuclei</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> relative distance R is str<strong>on</strong>gly h<strong>in</strong>dered.<br />

This h<strong>in</strong>drance can be expla<strong>in</strong>ed by a structural forbiddenness effect [36], by diabatic effects<br />

for <strong>the</strong> moti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> system to smaller relative distance [35, 66] and by a large microscopical<br />

mass parameter for <strong>the</strong> growth <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> neck [43]. The dynamics <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> DNS is ruled by <strong>the</strong><br />

potential energy surface which depends <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> isotope compositi<strong>on</strong>, <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> structure <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong><br />

fragments determ<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> transfer processes and collective excitati<strong>on</strong>s, and <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> divisi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<strong>the</strong> excitati<strong>on</strong> energy between <strong>the</strong> <strong>nuclei</strong>.<br />

In this chapter, we compare <strong>the</strong> potential energy U as a functi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> η at <strong>the</strong> touch<strong>in</strong>g<br />

c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> <strong>nuclei</strong> (driv<strong>in</strong>g potential) obta<strong>in</strong>ed with different methods. The value <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

R for <strong>the</strong> touch<strong>in</strong>g c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> is determ<strong>in</strong>ed by η and by deformati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> DNS <strong>nuclei</strong>.<br />
