The estimated collective velocities <strong>in</strong> λ and ε are large enough to c<strong>on</strong>sider diabatic effects<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> DNS. We estimated <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>imal excitati<strong>on</strong> energy per nucle<strong>on</strong> ε ∗ for <strong>the</strong> applicability <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

<strong>the</strong> diabatic treatment. The value <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> ε ∗ must fulfill <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>equality [52]<br />

where κ is <strong>the</strong> mean distance <strong>in</strong> q between two subsequent cross<strong>in</strong>gs. The numerical factor <strong>in</strong><br />

(3.6) is obta<strong>in</strong>ed by us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Fermi-gas <strong>model</strong> for estimat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> decay time due to residual<br />

two-body collisi<strong>on</strong>s [52]. From <strong>the</strong> study <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> diabatic and adiabatic levels <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> systems<br />

c<strong>on</strong>sidered, we obta<strong>in</strong>ed ε ∗ ≥0.03 MeV for <strong>the</strong> relative moti<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> R and ε ∗ ≥ 0.07 MeV for<br />

<strong>the</strong> moti<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> neck coord<strong>in</strong>ate ε. Therefore, <strong>the</strong> diabatic effects are already important for<br />

relatively small excitati<strong>on</strong> energies <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 6—14 MeV. For <strong>the</strong> relative moti<strong>on</strong>, <strong>the</strong> averange values<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> coupl<strong>in</strong>g |Hαβ| and <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> difference |∂ɛαβ/∂R| <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> slopes <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> cross<strong>in</strong>g levels are<br />

0.17 MeV and 1.52 MeV/fm, respectively. The value <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> coupl<strong>in</strong>g |Hαβ| is estimated as <strong>the</strong><br />

half <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> difference <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> energies <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> adiabatic levels α, β at <strong>the</strong> pseudo-cross<strong>in</strong>g po<strong>in</strong>t. For<br />

<strong>the</strong> moti<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> neck coord<strong>in</strong>ate, we obta<strong>in</strong>ed |Hαβ| =0.2 MeV and |∂ɛαβ/∂ε| =0.77 MeV.<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>in</strong> Ref. [52] <strong>the</strong> diabatic s<strong>in</strong>gle particle spectra were calculated with ano<strong>the</strong>r Hamilt<strong>on</strong>ian,<br />

a larger m<strong>in</strong>imal value <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> ε ∗ was obta<strong>in</strong>ed.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> present chapter we studied diabatic potentials as a functi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> el<strong>on</strong>gati<strong>on</strong>, neck<br />

coord<strong>in</strong>ate and mass asymmetry for various <strong>heavy</strong> systems. The calculati<strong>on</strong>s were performed<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> maximum symmetry method with <strong>the</strong> generalized TCSM. The diabatic effects give<br />

rise to h<strong>in</strong>drances for <strong>the</strong> growth <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> neck and for <strong>the</strong> moti<strong>on</strong> to smaller relative distances.<br />

The diabatic potentials as a functi<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> el<strong>on</strong>gati<strong>on</strong> are similar to <strong>the</strong> phenomenological<br />

double fold<strong>in</strong>g potentials used <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> DNS <strong>model</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> fusi<strong>on</strong>, which describes <strong>the</strong> experimental<br />

data quite well. For <strong>the</strong> asymmetric DNS, <strong>the</strong> diabatic h<strong>in</strong>drance for <strong>the</strong> moti<strong>on</strong> to smaller<br />

el<strong>on</strong>gati<strong>on</strong>s is smaller than for <strong>the</strong> symmetric DNS and, <strong>the</strong>refore, its evoluti<strong>on</strong> to <strong>the</strong> compound<br />

nucleus <strong>in</strong> λ is more favored. The quasi-fissi<strong>on</strong> barrier becomes larger with <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>crease <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong><br />

mass asymmetry <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> entrance channel. The temperature decreases <strong>the</strong> repulsive character<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> diabatic potential. The diabatic TCSM supports <strong>the</strong> <strong>model</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> fusi<strong>on</strong> based <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> DNS<br />

c<strong>on</strong>cept, where a h<strong>in</strong>drance for <strong>the</strong> moti<strong>on</strong> to smaller values <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> λ is assumed. The diabatic<br />
