the child sleeps asound<br />
dreaming of only her happy life.<br />

the clock ticks away<br />
waiting for no one to sway.<br />

the child wakes at a howl<br />
from the night’s many frights.<br />
The shadows turn to creatures,<br />
the ticks turn into monsters.<br />

the child is no longer there<br />
the footsteps can be heard running<br />
down the stairs<br />
crying for her parents, longing for the arms<br />
to keep her safe with care.<br />
In the room tonight<br />
the child wakes with a fright<br />
only to see the signt<br />
she has been longing for her whole life,<br />
the sight of her parents<br />
holding her tight.<br />
