The Beginning of Life<br />
The light fell through the cold glass window<br />
Illuminating the pale, wooden floor<br />
A mouse stirred in a corner<br />
Yearning for more of that delicious ray<br />
It began its journey<br />
A baby coos in its crib a few rooms over<br />
The father, stout and burly, comes to comfort<br />
But it’s too late.<br />
The squeak penetrates the soothing melody of the crib<br />
Breaking the air of tranquility<br />
The father, enraged, grabs that hard, metal tool<br />
Like a jackal, stalking its prey, he leaps<br />
THWACK!<br />
The light fell through the cold glass window<br />
Illuminating the wet bloody, floor<br />
A mouse no longer stirred in a corner<br />
It finally tasted the light.<br />
