creativity is the expression of their highest form of consciousness,<br />

their highest calling, and provides a true sense of meaning in their<br />

life. Someone who is starving, and whose child is dying from hunger,<br />

will simply not have the opportunity to express creativity in a<br />

positive way.<br />

Later in this book, you will discover the evidence upon which the<br />

scenario for Sustainable Abundance is grounded, and why it is not a<br />

Pollyanna dream. You will learn about the pragmatically tested<br />

mechanisms, at monetary and other levels, that make 'Sustainable<br />

Abundance' available to US as realistically, and with the Same<br />

probabilities, as the previous scenarios.<br />

One simple way to express the core thesis of Sustainable<br />

Abundance is that it is now possible to make capitalism truly<br />

sustainable through initiatives in the money system, sustainable not<br />

only ecologically but socio-politically as well. In short, capitalism<br />

with a human face does not have to remain an oxymoron.<br />

An important common key to developing sustainable capitalism is<br />

the implementation of money systems that support such objectives.<br />

We will see how at least three of the most critical problems of today's<br />

societies can be addressed effectively by using new kinds of<br />

currencies that could operate as a complement to the existing<br />

national money, and that are already operating in such a way in smallscale,<br />

prototype form in a dozen countries around the world.<br />

The four scenarios in perspective<br />

The difference in the length and detail of our different futures does<br />

not reflect their relative importance or likelihood. What these<br />

differences do reflect is the complexity of ideas that can be presented<br />

now, without the background that will be covered in the coming<br />

chapters. All four scenarios have just about the same chance of
