In 1979 we were awarded the Queen’s
Award for Export which was based at that
time on the manufacture of classic ladies’
Scottish skirts in tartan or tweed mostly
exported to European countries and Japan.
Our skirt making activity continues in our
now smaller Production Unit in Leith.
We believe in quality but
we also believe in being
flexible and versatile. The
Breacan is a more recent
Kinloch Anderson kilted
garment specially designed
to meet the Scots’ desire to
dress in a more casual way.
It is not a substitute for the
traditional kilt, rather it

maintains Kinloch Anderson’s quality
standards but is made ready to wear, in
standard sizes and therefore at a more
affordable price.
Our tartan expertise extends beyond our
service and advice to customers in the Shop.
We also specialise in the design and
development of exclusive tartans for
individuals, companies and organisations
who thereby want to own, wear and enjoy
the use of their special Scottish identity.
These include whisky companies,
universities and schools, sporting
organisations and charities.
