In-Line Chemical Injection for Single-Pass Cleaning<br />

Direct in-line chemical injection for single-pass delivery is used for selected CIP<br />

applications, where adecision is made to provide single-pass chemical contact on a<br />

once-through basis rather than detergent wash recirculation. Examples of singlepass<br />

CIP are pre-CIP decontamination rinses, cleaning of atransfer line separating<br />

different classes of areas, and cleaning multi-product filling lines. The most<br />

common method of direct injection utilizes amotor-operated diaphragm pump<br />

with discharge connection to the CIP supply pump suction, either directly or<br />

through aslip-stream loop. The flow rate of amotor-operated diaphragm pump<br />

is near-linear to the speed of rotation of the drive motor. This type of pump is<br />

especially suitable when alarge dosing volume is required in proportion to an<br />

analog FE output, as in the case for single-pass chemical delivery.<br />

An alternate method for single-pass delivery is to pre-batch cleaning agent<br />

solution in aCIP recirculation tank that is located on the CIP system. The CIP<br />

recirculation tank is first filled with water. Then, local pumped recirculation is<br />
