Abstract
Operations research is one of the well-known research area. It can be identified as a scientific methodology that deals with a managerial
decision making using the mathematical methods and computing capability of computers. Tools used by operational researchers are statistics,
probability, queuing theory, game theory, decision analysis, mathematical modeling, simulation and optimization.
Work in this area can be categorized as (1) fundamental work using probability theory, mathematical optimization and dynamical systems
theory; (2) modeling work using programming language, modeling language or computer software; (3) application work which integrates various
tools to deal with the real world problem.
With the current development of the open-source technology, researchers can access the state-of-the-art optimization solver via the web
browser and generate the live manuscripts using the client-server architecture. In this workshop, the SAGE mathematical software will be used to
illustrate the wide ranges of mathematical tools concentrating in solving the mathematical programming problem with the use of Python language for
a data manipulation step. An attendant will have a hand-on experience using the SAGE as a stand alone or client-server environment to perform the
mathematical analysis on selected optimization problems.
