contains information on data description
specifications (DDS) keywords, system-supplied
formats, return codes, file transfer support, and
programming examples.
Program enablers
v DDS Reference provides the application
programmer with detailed descriptions of the
entries and keywords needed to describe
database files (both logical and physical) and
certain device files (for displays, printers, and
ICF) external to the user’s programs.
v Database Programming provides the
application programmer or system programmer
with a detailed discussion of the AS/400
database organization, including information
on how to create, describe, and manipulate
database files on the system.
v Application Display Programming, SC41-5715-00,
provides information about creating and
maintaining screens for applications, creating
online help information, and working with
display files on the AS/400 system.
v Printer Device Programming, SC41-5713-03,
provides information on how to understand
and control printing: printing elements and
concepts, printer file support, print spooling
support, printer connectivity, advanced function
printing, and printing with personal computers.
v Tape and Diskette Device Programming,
SC41-5716-01, provides information about
creating and maintaining tape device files and
diskette device files.
v System/36 Environment Programming,
SC41-4730-00, provides information identifying
the functional and operational differences
between the applications process on the
System/36 and in the System/36 environment
on the AS/400 system.
v CL Programming, SC41-5721-03, provides a
wide-ranging discussion of programming
topics, including a general discussion of objects
and libraries, control language (CL)
programming, controlling flow and
communicating between programs, working
with objects in CL programs, and creating CL
programs. Other topics include predefined and
immediate messages and message handling,
defining and creating user-defined commands
and menus, and application testing, including
debug mode, breakpoints, traces, and display
functions.
v CL Reference provides a description of the
control language (CL) and its commands. Each
238 File Management V4R5
command is defined including its syntax
diagram, parameters, default values, and
keywords.
System Management
v Distributed Data Management provides the
application programmer or system programmer
with information about remote file processing.
It describes how to define a remote file to
OS/400 distributed data management (DDM),
how to create a DDM file, which file utilities
are supported through DDM, and the
requirements of OS/400 DDM as related to
other systems.
System Use
v System Operations: Font Management Aid User’s
Guide, SC18-2216, provides information about
how to maintain or use double-byte character
set (DBCS) user-defined characters. It also
shows how to maintain and distribute
user-defined characters and associated data
entry dictionaries between the AS/400 system
and its DBCS display stations.
v System Operation, SC41-4203-00, is intended for
system operators or administrators and
includes information on operating the console,
starting and stopping the system, responding to
messages, and controlling jobs and printer
output. It also provides information on devices,
communications, tapes and diskettes, using
online education and electronic customer
support, managing system operations, working
with program temporary fixes and handling
problems.
v Basic System Operation, Administration, and
Problem Handling, SC41-5206-04, is intended for
system operators or administrators and
includes information about the system unit
control panel, starting and stopping the system,
using tapes and diskettes, working with
program temporary fixes, as well as handling
problems.
v Using OfficeVision/400 Word Processing,
SH21-0701-00, provides the office user with
information on how to use the word processing
functions of SAA OfficeVision, and it can be
used with the OfficeVision online information.
v IDDU Use, SC41-5704-00, provides the
administrative secretary, business professional,
or programmer with detailed information on
how to use OS/400 interactive data definition
utility (IDDU) to describe data dictionaries,
files, and records to the system.
