When you use DBCS display stations to enter double-byte data, you may use the<br />

various data entry methods supported on the display station, or you may choose<br />

to use the AS/400 DBCS conversion support. DBCS conversion lets you enter an<br />

alphanumeric entry or DBCS code and convert the entry or code to its related<br />

DBCS word. DBCS conversion is intended for Japanese character sets and its use is<br />

limited for application to other double-byte character sets.<br />

Specifically, DBCS conversion lets you convert the following:<br />

v A string of alphanumeric characters to a DBCS word<br />

v English alphanumeric characters to double-byte alphanumeric characters<br />

v Alphanumeric Katakana to double-byte Hiragana and Katakana letters<br />

v A DBCS code to its corresponding double-byte character<br />

v A DBCS number to its corresponding double-byte character<br />

Where you can use DBCS Conversion<br />

You can use DBCS conversion in the following instances:<br />

v When entering data into input fields of certain SEU displays. For information<br />

about which fields you can use with DBCS conversion, refer to the ADTS for<br />

AS/400: Source Entry Utility book.<br />

v When prompting for double-byte data using QCMDEXEC. For instructions on<br />

this procedure, see the CL Reference.<br />

v When entering data into input fields of DBCS display files in user-written<br />

applications. Specify DBCS conversion with the DDS keyword IGCCNV. See the<br />

DDS Reference for information on this keyword.<br />

v When editing the related words on the Edit Related Words display, which is<br />

displayed when editing the DBCS conversion dictionary (EDTIGCDCT
