The appletviewer tool allows you to run applets without a web browser. It is<br />

compatible with the appletviewer tool that is supplied by Sun Microsystems, Inc.<br />

The appletviewer tool is available using the <strong>Qshell</strong> <strong>Interpreter</strong>.<br />

java - Run Java interpreter<br />

The java <strong>Qshell</strong> command runs Java programs. It is compatible with the java tool<br />

that is supplied by Sun Microsystems, Inc. with a few exceptions.<br />

The AS/400 Developer Kit for Java ignores the following options of the java <strong>Qshell</strong><br />

command:<br />

-cs Not supported.<br />

-checksource Not supported.<br />

-debug Supported by the AS/400 internal debugger.<br />

-noasyncgc Garbage collection is always running with the<br />

AS/400 Developer Kit for Java.<br />

-noclassgc Garbage collection is always running with the<br />

AS/400 Developer Kit for Java.<br />

-prof AS/400 has its own performance tools.<br />

-ss Not applicable on AS/400.<br />

-oss Not applicable on AS/400.<br />

-t AS/400 uses its own trace function.<br />

-verify Always verify on AS/400.<br />

-verifyremote Always verify on AS/400.<br />

-noverify Always verify on AS/400.<br />

The java <strong>Qshell</strong> command supports new options for AS/400. The following are the<br />

new options that are supported:<br />

Supported option Description<br />

-secure Checks for public write access to directories<br />

in the CLASSPATH.<br />

-gcfrq Specifies the garbage collection frequency.<br />

-gcpty Specifies the garbage collection priority.<br />

-opt Specifies the optimization level.<br />

-verbosegc A message is displayed for each garbage<br />

collection sweep.<br />

The Run Java (RUNJVA) command in the CL command reference documentation<br />

describes these new options in detail. The CL command reference documentation<br />

for the Create Java Program (CRTJVAPGM) command, Delete Java Program<br />

(DLTJVAPGM) command, and Display Java Program (DSPJVAPGM) command<br />

contains information about managing Java programs.<br />

The java <strong>Qshell</strong> command is available using the <strong>Qshell</strong> <strong>Interpreter</strong>.<br />
