CEO, Cedar Park Regional
Medical Center
Over the past year, it has been
exciting to experience the growth
of Cedar Park Regional Medical
Center. Last April, we completed
our first expansion project with
Ken Moncebaiz
Owner,
K&M Steam Cleaning
K&M Steam Cleaning specializes in
putting people first, which is why
we are growing faster than ever.
Mark Masten
Regional Bank Area
President, Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo has served this
community since 1858 when our
stagecoaches carried mail and
passengers across 900 miles of
Texas territory. Today, Wells Fargo
is a diversified financial services
company providing banking,
insurance, investments, mortgage
sponsors
the opening of our Level II NICU
and additional Labor Delivery
Recovery rooms. We recently
launched our Neurology and
Interventional Cardiology services.
Through minimally invasive
cardiac techniques, the blood
flow in the vessels that lead to the
heart can often be restored, and
heart attacks may be prevented.
We also continue to provide our
30-Minutes-or-Less ER Service
Pledge. In February, 2013, we
initially saw patients in our
Emergency Department in an
average of 22 minutes. We are
dedicated to providing exceptional
care to the communities of Cedar
Park and Leander.
We go above and beyond to
make each of our customers feel
appreciated. With 17 years of
Carpet, Upholstery and Air Duct
Cleaning experience, K&M has
expanded its expertise to include
Tile Cleaning, and is also an expert
in Stone Restoration.
K&M Steam Cleaning is fully
insured and bonded and is an
accredited member of the BBB.
K&M Steam Cleaning is locally
owned and operated, and
committed to providing superior
customer service and affordable
prices to the residents of Cedar
Park, Leander and Avery Ranch.
and consumer finance through
more than 120 Community
Banking stores and 183 ATMs in
Central Texas.
Locally, the Leander and Cedar
Park areas include several
convenient Community Banking
stores with personal bankers
ready to help you reach your
financial goals.
We strive to help you at every
stage of your life including buying
a home or auto, starting a small
business, saving for college,
planning for retirement—and
much more.
Come by and visit with a banker
for a financial check-up at one of
our convenient locations. Visit us
Markers bring past to life
By Emilie Boenig
The historical markers scattered throughout Cedar Park and Leander help
shine a light on what life was like in the 19th century and earlier. The first
documented pioneers include the Cluck, Heinatz, Dodd, McRae and Crumley
families. Following the Texas Revolution that ended in 1845, many early settlers
were awarded land grants from the state, growing the region’s population
and eventually leading to the incorporation of Cedar Park in 1973 and
Leander in 1978. The area now boasts more than 82,000 residents. This
page highlights just some of the nearby historical markers.
The marker at the entrance of the
Blockhouse Creek neighborhood
notes the location of the first
habitation of white men in
Williamson County. Built by the
Texas Rangers under Capt. John
J. Tumlinson in 1836, the fort was
designed to protect future frontier
settlers. Steps were carved into
a tree that once stood on-site so
Rangers could keep watch. The
blockhouse was abandoned upon
Gen. Antonio Lopez de Santa
Anna’s invasion of Texas, and
in 1837, it was burned down by
Native Americans.
Brushy Creek burial site
The body of a prehistoric
woman was just one discovery
made near what is now the
western portion of FM 1431 in
Cedar Park. In 1973, the Texas
Highway Department began
an archeological survey of the
vicinity before building the
proposed FM 1431 extension
from US 183 to I-35. During the
next 20 years, the site yielded
evidence of prehistoric cultural
habitation, including fireplaces,
spear points and grinding stones.
The burial of a young woman,
dubbed “Leanderthal Lady” or
“Leanne” by discoverers, was
uncovered in 1981. Though
researchers do not know her
cause of death, it is estimated
she was buried about 11,000
years ago.
3 Cedar Park Cemetery
The Cedar Park Cemetery on Bell
Boulevard is home to a number
history
of Cedar Park’s founding families,
including George and Harriet
“Hattie” Cluck. The couple drove
cattle on the Chisholm Trail
through Williamson County before
settling on what would become
the northwest corner of US 183
and Buttercup Creek Boulevard
in 1873. A number of family
members—including son Emmet,
who named the town Cedar Park in
1887—are buried in the cemetery,
which was set aside by George
and Harriet in 1901 following the
death of an infant grandson. The
land was deeded to the Cedar Park
Cemetery Association in 1912, and
the cost of public burials benefits
the Central Texas Children’s
Home, a nonprofit that provides
residential care for children living
in troubled homes.
Homestead
The Heinatz
Homestead was built from native
Texas stones in fall 1850 and
included an adjoining general
store and post office. The builder,
John Frederick Heinatz, was
born in Germany in 1822. After
settling in what was then known
as Bagdad, he became the store
proprietor, postmaster, public
school board trustee and banker—
among other town occupations.
The home still stands along
city information
LUBE & AUTO REPAIR
Welcome to the City of Cedar Park, named a Family
Circle magazine “Best Town for Families” in 2011. My
family and I, along with thousands of others, are proud
to call Cedar Park home for many reasons.
We are located immediately next to Austin and its
amenities, but we are proud to have plenty of our own
features right here in town. Our residents continue to
ask us to strike a balance between the conveniences of
city living and the thoughtful preservation of smalltown
community values. You can see two professional
sports teams and many top musical acts at the 7,000seat
Cedar Park Center. Your family can also enjoy
the benefits of Cedar Park being named by the Texas
Department of Public Safety as the second-safest city
of our size in Texas in 2011 and 2012.
Leander has doubled in size in the past 10 years. People
have started to discover the vast array of parks, golf,
schools, rolling hills and a fun culture.
Leander has something for everyone. Leander continues
to diversify itself and work on attracting more restaurants
and amenities. 2013 will see several expansions of our
road and transportation system, including the opening
of Hero Way, Mel Mathis Boulevard, San Gabriel Parkway
and the extension of Lakeline Boulevard from Crystal
Falls Parkway up to FM 2243.
City Council took a proactive approach several years
ago to secure the water necessary for such growth and
expansions. The planned “new urbanism approach” of
the transit-orientated development around the Capital
Cedar Park turns 40 this year, and it is clear that
our future grows only brighter. Our City Council and
staff are committed to economic development and
the attraction and retention of primary jobs. As the
overall economic picture improves, Cedar Park is wellpositioned
to attract even more high-tech, high-paying
job creators and new retailers and restaurants to
the city. To say that we are “open for business” is an
understatement.
Whether you are a current resident, a business owner
or a visitor, I invite you to look around and discover
how doing business here can be a winning prospect.
Metro Park & Ride station should see some ground
breaking this year with several housing projects in the
pipeline.
People have been moving to Leander during the past
decade because of the great school system, choices in
housing and a small-town feel while being right next to
the big city.
Leander continues to be the rising star in Central Texas.
