<strong>Standard</strong> <strong>Bus</strong> <strong>Procurement</strong> <strong>Guidelines</strong><br />
A <strong>com</strong>plete listing of destination sign readings for initial sign programming by the manufacturer are<br />
provided in attachments to Part 5: Technical Specifications.<br />
5.4.9.1.2 <strong>Bus</strong> Block Numbers<br />
An illuminated block number sign box with four characters, 4 inches high, shall be mounted on the<br />
dash panel to the right of center of the bus. The sign shall be mounted with a built-in appearance to<br />
eliminate glare and reflections in the windshield and shall minimize obstruction of the operator's<br />
view. Manual adjustment of the block number sign entry shall be provided from inside the bus with<br />
provision for reading the sign during the adjustment operation. Illumination of the sign shall be<br />
concurrent with the marker lights. The list of required sign readings is defined in attachments to Part<br />
5: Technical Specifications.<br />
5.4.9.2 PASSENGER INFORMATION AND ADVERTISING<br />
5.4.9.2.1 Interior Displays<br />
Provisions shall be made on the rear of the operator's barrier for a frame to retain information that is<br />
sized (Procuring Agency to specify width) inches wide and (Procuring Agency to specify height)<br />
inches high posted by the Procuring Agency, such as routes and schedules. Advertising media 11<br />
inches high and 0.09 inches thick shall be retained near the juncture of the bus ceiling and sidewall.<br />
The retainers may be concave and shall support the media without adhesives. The media shall be<br />
illuminated by the interior fluorescent light system.<br />
5.4.9.2.2 Exterior Displays<br />
Provisions shall be made to integrate advertising, which may be specified by the Procuring Agency,<br />
into the exterior design of the bus. Advertising media, frames, or supporting structures shall not<br />
detract from the readability of destination signs and signal lights, and shall not <strong>com</strong>promise passenger<br />
visibility. Advertising provisions shall not cause pedestrian hazards or foul automatic bus washing<br />
equipment, and shall not cover or interfere with doors, air passages, vehicle fittings, or in any other<br />
manner restrict the operation or serviceability of the bus.<br />

5.4.9.3 PASSENGER EXIT SIGNAL<br />
Baseline: Use for touch tape passenger<br />
signal.<br />
A passenger "Stop Requested" signal system<br />
that <strong>com</strong>plies with applicable ADA<br />
requirements defined in 49 CFR, Part 38.37<br />
shall be provided. The system shall consist of<br />
a touch tape, chime, and interior sign<br />
message. The touch tape shall be located the<br />
full length of the bus on the sidewalls,<br />
Alternative: Use for pull cord passenger<br />
signal.<br />
A passenger "Stop Requested" signal system<br />
that <strong>com</strong>plies with applicable ADA<br />
requirements defined in 49 CFR, Part 38.37<br />
shall be provided. The system shall consist of<br />
a pull cable, chime, and interior sign message.<br />
The pull cable shall be located the full length<br />
