Baseline: Use for mirrors on both sides.<br />
The bus shall be equipped with a corrosionresistant,<br />
outside rearview mirror on each side of<br />
the bus. Mirrors shall permit the operator to view<br />
the highway along both sides of the bus, including<br />
the rear wheels. The right curb-side rearview<br />
mirror shall be mounted so that its lower edge is<br />
no less than 80 inches above the street surface.<br />

The operator shall be able<br />
to adjust the curb-side<br />
mirror remotely while<br />
seated in the driving<br />
position. The control for<br />
remote positioning of the<br />
mirror shall be a single<br />
switch or device.<br />
Alternative: Use for replacement of curbside<br />
mirror with CCTV camera and<br />
monitor.<br />
The bus shall be equipped with a<br />
corrosion-resistant, outside rearview<br />
mirror on the street side of the bus. A<br />
video camera shall be mounted on the<br />
curb side of the bus and connected to a<br />
monitor visible to the operator. The<br />
monitor image shall be not less than 8<br />
inches when measured diagonally. The<br />
mirror and video system shall permit the<br />
operator to view the highway along both<br />
sides of the bus, including the rear<br />
wheels. The location of the video camera<br />
and monitor shall be approved by the<br />
Procuring Agency.<br />
Mirrors shall be firmly attached to the bus to prevent vibration and loss of adjustment, but not so<br />
firmly attached that the bus or its structure is damaged when the mirror is struck in an accident.<br />
Mirrors shall retract or fold sufficiently to allow bus washing operations.<br />

5.4.6.6.2 Interior Mirrors<br />
Alternative: Use for heated exterior mirrors.<br />
All exterior mirrors shall be electrically<br />
heated. The heaters shall be energized<br />
whenever the operator’s heater and/or<br />
defroster is activated.<br />
Mirrors shall be provided for the operator to observe passengers throughout the bus without leaving<br />
his seat and without shoulder movement. With a full standee-load, including standees in the<br />
vestibule, he shall be able to observe passengers in the front and rear stepwells, anywhere in the aisle,<br />
and in the rear seats. Inside mirrors shall not be in the line of sight to the right outside mirror.<br />
5.4.7 WINDOWS<br />
