screws. Panel fasteners shall be standardized so that only one tool is required to service all special<br />

fasteners within the bus.<br />

Baseline: Door actuator access doors with do<br />

not require tools or keys to open.<br />

Access doors for the door actuator<br />

<strong>com</strong>partments shall be secured with hand<br />

screws or latches, and shall prevent entry of<br />

mechanism lubricant into the bus interior. All<br />

fasteners that retain access panels shall be<br />

captive in the cover.<br />

Alternative: Requirement for locking access<br />

doors. Also see Section 5.4.3.8.1<br />

Access doors for the door actuator<br />

<strong>com</strong>partments shall be secured with locks, and<br />

shall prevent entry of mechanism lubricant into<br />

the bus interior. The locks shall be<br />

standardized so that only one tool, as required<br />

in Section 5.4.3.8.1, is required to open access<br />

doors on the bus. All fasteners that retain<br />

access panels shall be captive in the cover.<br />

Access openings in the floor shall be sealed to prevent entry of fumes and water into the bus interior.<br />

Flooring material shall be flush with the floor and shall be edge-bound with stainless steel, or other<br />

material that is acceptable to the Procuring Agency, to prevent the edges from <strong>com</strong>ing loose. Access<br />

openings shall be asymmetrical so that reinstalled flooring shall be properly aligned. Fasteners shall<br />

tighten flush with the floor.<br />

5.4.5 PASSENGER ACCOMMODATIONS<br />

5.4.5.1 PASSENGER SEATING<br />

5.4.5.1.1 Arrangements<br />

Baseline: <strong>Standard</strong> configuration with<br />

<strong>com</strong>bination of forward facing and longitudinal<br />

seating.<br />

Passenger seats shall be arranged in a<br />

transverse, forward facing configuration, except<br />

at the wheel housings where aisle-facing seats<br />

may be arranged as appropriate with due regard<br />

for passenger access and <strong>com</strong>fort.<br />

Baseline: Use for 40-ft length bus with<br />

baseline seats and baseline seating<br />

arrangement.<br />

Seating capacity with this arrangement shall be<br />

Passenger seats shall be arranged in<br />

longitudinal rows facing the centerline of the<br />

bus. One row of transverse, forward facing<br />

seats shall be provided at the rear of the bus.<br />

Longitudinal seating shall meet the<br />

requirements in Section 5.4.5.1.3 except that<br />

armrest shall be provided between every other<br />

seating position at the same location as vertical<br />

passenger assists defined in Section 5.4.5.2.6.<br />

Each seat shall have a minimum width of 17<br />

inches, not including the armrest.<br />
