<strong>Standard</strong> <strong>Bus</strong> <strong>Procurement</strong> <strong>Guidelines</strong><br />
a. Class 1: Physical Safety. A failure that could lead directly to passenger<br />
or operator injury and represents a severe crash situation.<br />
b. Class 2: Road Call. A failure resulting in an en route interruption of<br />
revenue service. Service is discontinued until the bus is replaced or<br />
repaired at the point of failure.<br />
c. Class 3: <strong>Bus</strong> Change. A failure that requires removal of the bus from<br />
service during its assignments. The bus is operable to a rendezvous point<br />
with a replacement bus.<br />
d. Class 4: Bad Order. A failure that does not require removal of the bus<br />
from service during its assignments but does degrade bus operation. The<br />
failure shall be reported by operating personnel.<br />
(21) Maintenance Personnel Skill Levels. Defined below are maintenance personnel skill<br />
levels used in Part 5: Technical Specifications.<br />
a. 5M: Specialist Mechanic or Class A Mechanic Leader<br />
b. 4M: Journeyman or Class A Mechanic<br />
c. 3M: Service Mechanic or Class B Servicer<br />
d. 2M: Mechanic Helper or <strong>Bus</strong> Servicer<br />
e. 1M: Cleaner, Fueler, Oiler, Hostler, or Shifter<br />
In attachments to Part 5: Technical Specifications, the Procuring Agency may relate the<br />
skill levels and ratings of mechanics in its operation to the above definitions.<br />
(22) <strong>Standard</strong>s. <strong>Standard</strong>s referenced in Part 5: Technical Specifications are the latest<br />
revisions unless otherwise stated.<br />
(23) Wheelchair. A mobility aid belonging to any class of three or four-wheeled devices,<br />
usable indoors, designed for and used by individuals with mobility impairments, whether<br />
operated manually or powered. A “<strong>com</strong>mon wheelchair” is such a device that does not<br />
exceed 30 inches in width and 48 inches in length measured two inches above the<br />
ground, and does not weigh more than 600 pounds when occupied.<br />
(24) Structure. The structure shall be defined as the basic body, including floor and panels,<br />
structural <strong>com</strong>ponents, axle mounting provisions and suspension beams and attachment<br />
points.<br />
