Cycle.” The duty cycle consists of three phases to be repeated in sequence: a central<br />

business district (CBD) phase of 2 miles with 7 stops per mile and a top speed of 20 mph, an<br />

arterial route phase of 2 miles with 2 stops per mile and a top speed of 40 mph, and a<br />

<strong>com</strong>muter phase of 4 miles with 1 stop and a maximum speed of 55 mph and an idle phase.<br />

Transit Coach Duty Cycle<br />

The bus shall be loaded to SLW and shall average approximately 18 mph while operating<br />

on this duty cycle. Operation shall continue regardless of the ambient temperature or<br />

weather conditions. The passenger doors shall be opened and closed at each stop, and the<br />

bus shall be knelt at each stop during the CBD phase. The braking profile shall be:<br />

16 percent of the stops at 3 ft/sec/sec<br />

50 percent of the stops at 6 ft/sec/sec<br />

26 percent of the stops at 9 ft/sec/sec<br />

8 percent of the stops at 12 ft/sec/sec<br />

These percentages of stops shall be evenly distributed over the three phases of the duty<br />

cycle. For scheduling purposes, the average deceleration rate is assumed.<br />

(20) Class of Failures. Classes of failures are described below.<br />
