of being a dead <strong>cat</strong> ; extending liimself upon <strong>the</strong><br />

rug with an exaggeratedly death-like rigidity,—<br />

and so remaining until her command to be alive<br />

again brought him briskly to rub himself, rising<br />

on his hind legs and purring mellowly, against her<br />

comfortable knee.<br />
