Hiking trails<br />
For those who love being in the middle of nature, hiking trails have been <strong>la</strong>id out<br />
to provi<strong>de</strong> a safe way of discovering the forest. Along the pathways, you can discover<br />
the diversity of p<strong>la</strong>nt species that make up the natural environment, and you<br />
can also spot a number of birds.<br />
The Rorota trail<br />
on the Mahury p<strong>la</strong>teau<br />
10 km from Cayenne on the beach road.<br />
Type: path in a loop.<br />
Distance: 4 km.<br />
Site interests: typical coastal forest, remarkable<br />
viewpoints of the coast and its beaches, 3 <strong>la</strong>kes.<br />
Time required: 2 hours 30 minutes.<br />
Level of difficulty: easy.<br />
The Molokoï trail of Cacao<br />
64 km from Cayenne.<br />
Type : the longest signposted trail in <strong>French</strong><br />
<strong>Guiana</strong> in mountainous territory. Two <strong>de</strong>parture<br />
points possible<br />
(Vil<strong>la</strong>ge of Cacao or River Orapu).<br />
Distance: 18 km.<br />
Site interests: a hike for real nature lovers, to enjoy<br />
at a slow and silent pace to observe the fauna and<br />
flora. Half-way there is a carbet refuge on the<br />
edge of a waterfall: i<strong>de</strong>al for a well-earned break.<br />
Time required: from Cacao 3 to 5 hours + 4 to<br />
6 hours the following day. From the river Orapu<br />
(Auberge <strong>de</strong>s orpailleurs) 5 to 6 hours + 3 to<br />
5 hours the following day.<br />
Level of difficulty: this trail is for experienced and<br />
informed hikers.<br />
It is strongly advised to use the services of a<br />
gui<strong>de</strong>.<br />
The Miran<strong>de</strong> trails in Matoury<br />
14 km from Cayenne.<br />
Type: 2 trails on primary forest hill (no human<br />
exploitation).<br />
- an interpretation trail that makes a loop.<br />
- a walking trail.<br />
Distance of interpretation trail: 2.8 km.<br />
Distance of walking trail: 2.5 km.<br />

a hiking trail through different types of forest and<br />
a small trail through secondary forest.<br />
Distance of long trail: 3.2 km in a loop.<br />
Distance of small trail: 700 m.<br />
Site interests: presence of stations providing information<br />
on p<strong>la</strong>nt species. From the crest, superb<br />
view over the river estuary, the town of Kourou, the<br />
Îles <strong>du</strong> Salut out at sea, and the <strong>Guiana</strong> Space<br />
Centre facilities.<br />
Time required for long trail: 2 hours.<br />
Level of difficulty: athletic trail.<br />
Time required for small trail: 30 min.<br />

Saül trails<br />
45min by p<strong>la</strong>ne from Cayenne.<br />
Type : several trails through primary forest:<br />
- “Roche Bateau” trail,<br />
- “Gros Arbre” circuit,<br />
- “Grand Bœuf Mort” circuit.<br />
Site interests: these trails are i<strong>de</strong>al for discovering<br />
p<strong>la</strong>nt species that are unique in the world, as well<br />
as the <strong>la</strong>rgest tree i<strong>de</strong>ntified in <strong>Guiana</strong>.<br />
Time required: varies from 2 hours to 1 day.<br />
Level of difficulty: these trails are for good walkers<br />
who love untouched nature.<br />
