reside with or in a home provided by the member or the parent who is the member’s spouse. A child also includes the illegitimate<br />

child of an AD or retired female member. Children in this category are eligible for medical care on the date of birth since they need<br />

not be dependent on the female member for support or reside in a home provided by the member.<br />

(5) Parent or parent-in-law (natural or adoptive) who is, or was at the time of death of the AD or retired member,<br />

dependent on the member for over one-half of his or her support and residing in a dwelling place provided or<br />

maintained by the member. (This does not include a stepparent or person who has assumed the role of a parent.)<br />

b. Family members of foreign nationals. Eligible spouses and children only. (The same conditions apply as for U.S.<br />

Family members.)<br />

Federal medical treatment facilities<br />

Includes Department of Veterans Affairs treatment facilities.<br />

Final disposition<br />

When an inpatient is no longer carried on the rolls of a U.S. armed forces MEDCEN or MEDDAC. The reason is<br />

discharge to duty or home, death, separation, retirement, or other termination of inpatient status. The inpatient receives<br />

final disposition when the MEDCEN or hospital formally terminates the period of inpatient hospitalization.<br />

Fixed military treatment facility<br />

A military treatment facility designed to operate for an extended period of time at a specific site.<br />

Full reimbursable rate<br />

The full cost to the Government of providing medical care to a noneligible patient.<br />

Funds<br />

Domestic currency and coins, cashier’s checks, travelers’s checks, checks drawn on the Treasurer of the United States,<br />

and checks drawn on another PTF, when accepted for deposit.<br />

Health care finder<br />

A person who makes test and specialty care appointments for patients in the MTF or contractor network.<br />

Health maintenance organization<br />

A prepaid plan (like TRICARE Prime) that uses a limited, select network of health care providers/practitioners. HMOs<br />

usually cover a full range of services and often emphasize preventive and primary care rather than high cost specialty<br />

care.<br />

Health record<br />

The OTR and the dental record of a military member.<br />

Inpatient rate<br />

A flat, per diem, hospitalization charge determined by DOD. No credit is given for meals not consumed.<br />

Inpatient treatment record<br />

The record used at an MTF that has authorized beds for inpatient medical or dental care. It is begun on admission to<br />

the MTF and completed at the end of hospitalization. This record applies to all beneficiaries.<br />

Intermediate individual<br />

An individual with each professional department or service who is charged with specific responsibility for all<br />

transactions between patients who have established an account with the PTF and the custodian of the PTF that require<br />

the services of an intermediate recipient.<br />

Major overseas commanders<br />

The Commander-in-Chief, U.S. <strong>Army</strong>, Europe and Seventh <strong>Army</strong>; Commanding General, U.S. <strong>Army</strong>, Japan; Commanding<br />

General, Eighth U.S. <strong>Army</strong>; and Commanding General, U.S. <strong>Army</strong>, Pacific.<br />

Managed care<br />

Any health care plan that initiates selective contracts or payments between providers/practitioners, employers, and/or<br />

insurers to channel patients to a specific set of cost-effective, quality health care providers/practitioners.<br />

Maternity care<br />

Prenatal care, hospitalization, delivery, and 6 weeks of postnatal follow-up care relating to the current pregnancy.<br />
