V. Charles Kinnaird Johnstone-Gordon, born Sept. 25, 1806, Captain in<br />

<strong>the</strong> E.I. Co.'s Navy, Knight <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Persian Order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lion and Sun.<br />

Married, May 1838, his cousin Elizabeth, only daughter <strong>of</strong> Francis Gordon<br />

<strong>of</strong> Craig, by whom he had four daughters, <strong>of</strong> whom <strong>the</strong> eldest, Elizabeth Mary,<br />

married, Sept. 8, 1857, Hugh Scott <strong>of</strong> Gala (who died Dec. 9, 1877), leaving<br />

issue. At <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> Mrs Johnstone's fa<strong>the</strong>r, 1857, Captain Johnstone<br />

assumed <strong>the</strong> name and arms <strong>of</strong> Gordon on succeeding to <strong>the</strong> estates <strong>of</strong> Craig<br />

and Kincardine, Co. Aberdeen. The Gordons <strong>of</strong> Craig are descended from<br />

Patrick Gordon <strong>of</strong> Craig, who fell at Flodden (1513), and whose grandfa<strong>the</strong>r,<br />

John, was younger bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Sir Adam Gordon.<br />

VI. Henry Wedderburn, born April 15, 18 10, Commander R.N. Married,<br />

Nov. 13, 1857, Sarah, daughter <strong>of</strong> John Walter; died Dec. 30, 1865, leaving<br />

(1) James George, born Dec. 22, 1859. Married, 1896, Mary Margaret,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Thomas Duff. He died s.p. 1900.<br />

(2) Montagu Henry, born Oct. 2, 1861 ; died s.p. 1891.<br />

VII. Robert Abercrombie (Rev.), Rector <strong>of</strong> Ingrave, Essex, born July 8,<br />

181 1. Married Anne, daughter <strong>of</strong> Joseph Walker, and died s.p. 1867.<br />

VIII. Francis William, born May 25, 1818, late Captain in <strong>the</strong> Army, and<br />

Lieutenant-Colonel 2nd Lanarkshire Militia. Married, Jan. 10, 1844. Maria,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Peirce Mahony. He died Aug. 9, 1888, having had<br />

(1) Montagu, born Sept. 28, 1844.<br />

(2) Peirce de Lacy Henry, M.A., Oxon., born 1848. Married Jessie,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> James Sime.<br />

(3) Alice Jane, died 1906, wife <strong>of</strong> her cousin, Peirce O'Mahony.<br />

(4) Edith Lucy, married, 1888, Leonard Barnard, and has issue.<br />

IX. Caroline Elizabeth, married, June 23, 1829, Rev. John Hamilton Gray<br />

<strong>of</strong> Carntyne, Co. Lanark, by whom (who died June 1867) she had an only<br />

daughter, Maria, who married, 1852, John Anstru<strong>the</strong>r Thomson <strong>of</strong> Charleston,<br />

Fife; died 1883. Mrs Hamilton Gray acquired literary reputation by her<br />

historical works on Etruria and Rome. She died Feb. 21, 1887.<br />

X. Sarah Emily, died unmarried 1891.<br />

XI. Mary Anne, married, 1839, James Dewar, and died Sept. 1892, leaving<br />

(1) James Raymond Johnstone Dewar, Major R.A., late Bengal. Married<br />

Caroline Emily, daughter <strong>of</strong> General R. Phayre, C.B.<br />

(2) Arthur Robert Johnstone Dewar, New Zealand Local Force, and three<br />

daughters.<br />

XII. Ca<strong>the</strong>rine Lucy, died unmarried 1866.<br />

XIII. Sophia Matilda, married, Aug. 28, 1832, Sir John Muir Mackenzie,<br />

Bart., <strong>of</strong> Delvine, Co. Perth. She died Jan. 29, 1900, leaving issue.<br />

XIV. Jemima Eleanora, married, Feb. 16, 1848, Lord Frederick Beauclerk<br />

<strong>of</strong> Grimsby Hall, son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> eighth Duke <strong>of</strong> St. Albans. She died Oct. 14,<br />

1877, leaving<br />
