Charles Somerset, late Lieutenant 2nd Dragoons, born June 1882, married<br />

Victoria Stewart; 2, Reginald Fitzroy Lewis, born 1884, Second Lieutenant<br />

Cameron Highlanders; 3, Violet.<br />

Colonel Montague Johnstone was educated at Cheltenham, where he won<br />

in one term <strong>the</strong> class Ma<strong>the</strong>matical, Divinity and German prizes. In athletics<br />

he won <strong>the</strong> boxing belt and o<strong>the</strong>r trophies. He was not only <strong>the</strong> last Cornet<br />

to be gazetted to <strong>the</strong> Royal Scots Greys, but <strong>the</strong> last <strong>of</strong>ficer to buy his<br />

Cornetcy and Lieutenancy. In 1880 he was made extra Aide-de-camp to <strong>the</strong><br />

Lord-Lieutenant <strong>of</strong> Ireland, and four years later was appointed to <strong>the</strong> Headquarter<br />

Staff in Sir Charles Warren's expedition to Bechuanaland, where he<br />

helped to raise <strong>the</strong> 2nd Mounted Rifles, for which he obtained 400 volunteers.<br />

He saw much hard service in <strong>the</strong> South African War, taking part in all <strong>the</strong><br />

operations in which Lord Methuen's Brigade was engaged (1 899-1901). He<br />

commanded <strong>the</strong> Lambeth Palace Camp at <strong>the</strong> King's Coronation.<br />

(3) Francis Fawkes, Lieutenant-Colonel late Bedfordshire Regiment, born<br />

Aug. 1849. Married, first, 1878, Henrietta, second daughter <strong>of</strong> James Sullivan,<br />

and had— 1, Montague, born 1880, died unmarried 1907 ; 2, Mary Louisa,<br />

married, 1897, P. Kitchin ; 3, Frances Geraldine. He married, secondly, 1887,<br />

Harriet, widow <strong>of</strong> Captain Greg and daughter <strong>of</strong> Richard Sargent, and has<br />

4, Charles, born 1889.<br />

(4) Robert Fitzroy Maclean, late Major 4th Hyderabad Lancers, born<br />

Sept. 30, 1859. Married, 1898, Mary, widow <strong>of</strong> F. A. Beauclerk and daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> Admiral J. B. Dickson.<br />

(5) Frances Mary (10 Newbold Terrace, Leamington).<br />

(6) Fanny Louisa, died 1895, married her cousin, John Pitt Muir<br />

Mackenzie.<br />

(7) Edith Olive, married, 1883, Captain Edmund George Reilly, B.S.C.,<br />

who died 1887. A son, Noel.<br />

(8) Mysie Caroline, married, 1886, Frederick Gomer, and has children.<br />

(9) Maud, married, 1904, Stanley Davies.<br />

IV. George Dempster (Rev.), Captain (retired) H. E.I. C.S., born March 13,<br />

1805, Rector <strong>of</strong> Creed, Cornwall. Married, Sept. 1, 1842, Mary Anne, daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late John Hawkins <strong>of</strong> Bignor, in Sussex, and niece <strong>of</strong> Sir Christopher<br />

Hawkins and Colonel Sibthorp. Died 1867, having had<br />

(1) George Herbert, born June 1, 1843 ; died young.<br />

(2) John Heywood <strong>of</strong> Bignor Park, Sussex, J. P., M.P. for Horsham<br />

Division, 1893-1904. Born May 18, 1850. Married, 1878, Josephine, daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late J. Wells <strong>of</strong> Bickley, Co. Kent, and died Oct. 10, 1904, leaving— 1,<br />

George Horace, now <strong>of</strong> Bignor Park and Trewi<strong>the</strong>n, Co. Cornwall, born Jan. 8,<br />

1882; 2, Frances Grace, married, April 19, 1904, George Bernard Hill; 3,<br />

Margaret Ruth.<br />

(3) Mary Ca<strong>the</strong>rine, <strong>the</strong> only daughter <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Rev. George D. Johnstone,<br />

married, April 23, 1874, John Gwennap Dennis Moore <strong>of</strong> Garlenick, Co. Cornwall,<br />

and has— 1, Herbert Tregosse Gwennap, Captain R.E., served in South<br />

Africa, 1899-1902; 2, Waldo Alington Gwennap, Captain Welsh Regiment;
