becomes obsolete), the onl<strong>in</strong>e versions are updated weekly. In addition, three versions of this catalog are<br />

available from our web site: The United States version, the Canadian version, and the Japanese version. The<br />

Onl<strong>in</strong>e Publications Catalog is available via the Documentation/Publications section of the Customer Services<br />

home page.<br />

Each version of the Publications Catalog conta<strong>in</strong>s over 400 items; therefore, the pr<strong>in</strong>t version of the catalogs is<br />

large, and the topics are not always easy to f<strong>in</strong>d. With the WWW version, users no longer have to place a<br />

phone call to f<strong>in</strong>d a title relat<strong>in</strong>g to a product; they can easily and efficiently browse a database that is sorted by<br />

title, product, or even new releases [Fig. 1]. Another advantage of the Onl<strong>in</strong>e version of the catalog is the l<strong>in</strong>k<br />

to a sample "Table of Contents;" this option allows users to preview the contents of the book.<br />

To create the searchable database, a WAIS <strong>in</strong>dex is built aga<strong>in</strong>st the hundreds of entries <strong>in</strong> a SAS data set.<br />

Once the <strong>in</strong>dex is built, a perl script queries the data and extracts the <strong>in</strong>dex-build<strong>in</strong>g topics. Once the <strong>in</strong>dex is<br />

complete, the HTML page is created as a front-end to the <strong>in</strong>dex:<br />
