Faculty and students of the Vanderbilt University Center for Innovation <strong>in</strong> Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g Education have<br />

developed several complete on-l<strong>in</strong>e courses primarily for use by students of the Vanderbilt School of<br />

Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g. Three of these courses will be discussed: Introduction to Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, In<strong>format</strong>ics, and Total<br />

Quality Management.<br />

Introduction to Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g (ES 130)<br />

ES 130 is an <strong>in</strong>troduction to eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g computer tools for freshman eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g students. This course was<br />

designed to <strong>in</strong>troduce basic computer knowledge, the Internet and <strong>in</strong><strong>format</strong>ion resources, model<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

simulation methods, mathematical computer tools, and team work. Students were able to access all lectures and<br />

<strong>in</strong>teractive laboratory sessions on-l<strong>in</strong>e. Many of the lectures <strong>in</strong>cluded software tutorials and additional<br />

<strong>in</strong>teractive examples.<br />

In<strong>format</strong>ics is a course designed for Electrical Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g/Computer Science undergraduate and Management<br />

of Technology graduate students. The outcome of this course was to ga<strong>in</strong> an understand<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>in</strong><strong>format</strong>ion
