ID Comm: Build<strong>in</strong>g a Virtual Community for Instructional Designers<br />

ID Comm is a Web based project designed to encourage collaboration among <strong>in</strong>structional designers with<br />

topics <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>structional design, computer based learn<strong>in</strong>g, distance learn<strong>in</strong>g, Web based learn<strong>in</strong>g, etc.<br />

ID Comm <strong>in</strong>cludes a database of resources for <strong>in</strong>structional designers, yet attempts to be more than just another<br />

<strong>in</strong>dex of resources. ID Comm resources can be accessed <strong>in</strong> a variety of ways <strong>in</strong> order to retrieve only the most<br />

relevant <strong>in</strong><strong>format</strong>ion. ID Comm also <strong>in</strong>cludes a number of forums for discussions on relevant topics.<br />

The success of ID Comm is based upon participation by <strong>in</strong>structional design professionals. Anyone can easily<br />

add resources to the database or add comments to exist<strong>in</strong>g resources.<br />

This poster covers the functionality of the ID Comm web site <strong>in</strong> addition to the design process and the<br />

technology <strong>in</strong>volved.
