It is evident that be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>consistent state is much more serious than deal<strong>in</strong>g with a violation. In the first<br />

case the system cannot be trusted anymore and serious measures have to be taken immediately. In the latter case<br />

it is a matter of duely wait<strong>in</strong>g, because, accord<strong>in</strong>g to the diagram, eventually, there comes a moment that the<br />

violation will be resolved. Either by the action of<br />

the user to return the book, or by the action of the<br />

library system to block the user, after several warn<strong>in</strong>gs. The nice th<strong>in</strong>g about the diagram is that <strong>in</strong>deed such a<br />

situation will occur, because there are no MUST boxes without a lightn<strong>in</strong>g arrow lead<strong>in</strong>g to some other box.<br />

The formulae written <strong>in</strong> the boxes are so-called CPL formulae; the syntax is very close to Functional Grammar<br />

(see [Dik 89]). Indeed, one can see what k<strong>in</strong>d of th<strong>in</strong>gs (objects) may occur as roles/parameters with<strong>in</strong> the<br />

formulae: <strong>in</strong> the borrow<strong>in</strong>g action, the user is the active agent, the library is the source and the book is the goal.<br />

In this way one can see which roles are be<strong>in</strong>g played by which objects.<br />

In the actual Color-X tool heavy use is be<strong>in</strong>g made of the WordNet [Miller95] system, which is a lexicon<br />

consist<strong>in</strong>g of the mean<strong>in</strong>g (<strong>in</strong> a computer-friendly form) of some 90.000 words/concepts. Us<strong>in</strong>g this lexicon it is
