We delivered 30 plus miniature flower pots
and seeds to the Westsyde Elementary
kindergarten class, which included Hug-a-
Tree coloring books. Also, we donated several
household items and puzzles to the Food
Bank thrift store.
On May 4, 15 volunteers participated as
judges at the Kamloops/Thompson Regional
Heritage Fair. The purpose of the Heritage
Fair Project is to encourage students to
develop an increased awareness and interest
in Canadian history and culture. Students
are able to research any aspect of Canadian
history or culture and to present the results
of their efforts to the community at large,
using a variety of mediums. The judging
process is designed to be growth-oriented
and positive in nature. The intent is to help
students maintain their interest in history, to
improve their skill level and to celebrate their
achievements. The judging process will also
be used to help select students to represent
our region at other historical events.
East Kootenays
The annual barbecue and lawn dart
tournament will be held on Sunday,
June 25, 2006 starting at 1:00 pm.

Calgary
The Calgary ambassador club is slowly but
surely gaining momentum. A faithful group
of women retirees hold their meetings the
2nd Wednesday of every month from
September to June, beginning at 9:45 am.
There is a workshop after the meetings
and also once a week alternating between
Mondays and Tuesdays.
At these workshops the ladies continue with
their ongoing projects – comfort pillows for
patients with recent heart surgery, and comfort
bears, distributed to children in traumatic
situations. Another project is making tote bags
for cancer out-patients, which would contain
all items they need to bring for each treatment.
The women also keep themselves busy at
home knitting and crocheting afghans for
organisations in need.
The Calgary team held a very successful
garage sale on May 12-13, 2006.

Edmonton
Edmonton enjoys a large and active volunteer
base that has created unique and innovative
programs including toy repair, sewing, talking
blue books, woodworking and preparing
gift baskets.
The Edmonton club is just getting started!

people profile: Jean Brien & Lorri Kidd (Prince George)
Lorri and Jean have been enthusiastic volunteers for TELUS Community Connections
for many years. “From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however,
makes a life.” This quote from Arthur Ashe serves as Lorri and Jean’s motto. They
have been both involved in the Prince George community with various organizations:
Special Olympics, Seniors Games, AWAC (Association for Women and Children),
St. Vincent’s De Paul, Hospice House, Prince George Food Bank, Salvation Army,
Douglas St. House, Scott Tournament of Hearts as well as several political fundraising
events, and as role mentors for women who are facing challenges.
Toronto
Greater Toronto Area team members opened
their wallets to help feed those in need,
donating more than $1,400, as part of the
annual Lunch Money Day fundraising
initiative held February 23. The funds go to
Second Harvest, which collects unused fresh
food from grocery stores and restaurants,
preparing and delivering it daily to social
service agencies across the city. Four TELUS
locations—Judson, King, Sheppard and
Gough Road—participated in the initiative,
which encourages people to donate the money
they would normally spend on their lunch.
