Huysmans, rather than reconstructing the moment through<br />

descriptive detail, tries to convey its essence. Similarly,<br />

future artists, instead of attempting to represent, try to<br />

directly convey their sentient response. Thus Matisse<br />

explains: ˝I merely try to find a color that will fit my<br />
